Is powering a node from CR123 or CR123A a good idea?
-
I read through the forum but couldn't get a definitive answer. In some threads it was said that the rechargeable CR123 gives off 4v when fully charged so can fry the nrf. I intend to use it with mini pro with voltage regulator cut. Will using a non rechargeable ones work better? is using these http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2pcs-mini-DC-DC-Converter-1V-1-2V-1-5V-1-8V-2-5V-3V-to/32267942417.html a good idea? I have some and they will suck the battery dry but consume current so anyone knows if it is a good tradeoff?

I am using a Zigbee Xbee chip at the moment and it is powered by a CR123A battery. Powerful little guys. Dont go rechargeable. Too much of a headache. A CR123A has about 1200-1500mAh capacity. More than enough for a sleeping node for years.
Rechargeable batteries hold significantly less amperage, so the comfort in not having to replace the battery is eclipsed with extra current consuming circuitry and recharging 2-3x more than replacing the battery by itself.
My 2cents

@Ivan-Z Thanks. I have seen this in another thread. Decided against it for several reasons. This sensor should be asleep 99.9999% of the time. According to the legends this battery should power my sensor for years.
