Mobile phone as gateway

Any idea to use mobile phone as a gateway. We completely have WiFi, Bluetooth, display and powering system on the mobile phone. Maybe we could have a gateway app to connect sensors with the technology. There are a lot of mobiles ready for up-cycling.

I have been a Vera user , all flavors , for more than 8 years now, I have tried Ui1.5.x.x and UI7.x.x ,I have tried the Vera Edge with approx 40 sensors and modules and using PLEG for controlling most all aspects of the Home automation. I found the Vera Edge could not handle all the Automation, tech support worked with me for 3 weeks to try to get the Edge to cooperate . I finally sent it back to where I bought the Unit. I changed over to my Veralite and my Vera3 and split the work up between the 2 controllers. I run Mysensor Ethernet Gateway on both of my controllers, 1 gateway for 2 Veras. I have Zwave motion sensors,Zwave modules, Zwave dimmer modules, Zwave Honeywell Thermostat and Temperature and Humid sensors that are Zwave. I have Mysensor door/window sensor built with Attiny 85, so much cheaper to build than using Nano or Pro-Mini I also have Scene controllers built with pro-Mini that control ceiling fans remotely, bedroom lights remotely, Entertainment Centers remotely. You get the Idea. Now nothing is perfect I have had my glitches but for FREE their is no other controller I will use , unless someone comes up with one as reliable and cost effect as MCV.

First off, sorry to revive this. I just discovered the (new?) 8-pin CC1101 modules and thought "hey, it uses the same socket as the NRF24". So I tried comparing the pin positions. And to my surprise they seem very compatible: GND -> GND CE -> GDO0 SCK -> SCK MISO -> MISO 3.3V -> 3.3V CSN -> CSN MOSI ->MOSI IRQ -> GDO2 To me this radio would have a few advantages over the RFM69: Plug and play. I could plug it into the Nano wireless expansion boards. Built in antenna socket. I think it could be advantageous to use a 433 radio that is plug-in compatible with the NRF24 in this way. 3D printable cases and open hardware designs would only need to support one socket design and still support both frequencies. The STM8S103F3P6 (the "1$ arduino") has a version with built in socket, and expressly advertises that it is compatible with both radios. There is an STM32 version with a socket too. As someone who started by using the NRF24, I've long wished I could easily switch to the 433Mhz band instead. Supporting the CC1101 would make that as easy as plugging in a new radio.

Hi. That's the same problem I'm facing at my house, multiple levels, also the radios don't have enough coverage to reach the far end of the same floor (PA's radios do, but I only use them on the GW and MQTT GWs, can't use them on battery powered sensors for obvious reasons), so the multiple gw distribution system should be an ideal solution for me and people living in "castles" or "Faraday cages" XD Currently I have moved from a serial gw to Ethernet and MQTT gws (one Ethernet and one or two MQTTs), I find the Ethernet GW to be more stable than the MQTT ones (Client or Broker, same DIY PCB, I just pop out one nano and place the other) , your scenario 1, also some messages get mixed from time to time, even using different channels. Some times the GWs stop looping and I need to restart them, funny thing is that connecting to them in order to debug if they are running seem to jump-start the loop again. So my vote goes for scenario 2 also, plus, it should be interesting for the Ethernet GWs to act also like MQTT Clients and/or Brokers, because the IOT community is clearly taking that approach in their effort to "standardize" all the chaos that exists today. I think we should keep things as simple as possible, I've read this post: http://forum.mysensors.org/topic/887/future-network-topology-for-discussion And I think it's a superb idea, clustering the whole network into more easy to manage subnetworks, each one with a different topology connecting to a Network (TCP) controller through their GWs, all the complicated stuff should be done by the "Controller" the subnetworks should be as dumb as possible, leaving the heavy duty processing to the controller. I know this isn't much, I wish I knew more about all of this, but I hope my experience will be useful. Regards.
