I need to measure the humidity level in an air hose (3/4 in diameter) but I'm struggling to find a sensor that would work.. I've been looking for something that would connect to the end of the hose and measure the humidity of the air that passes through, but I haven't found anything.

Are there better options? Surely this has to exist somewhere...

If you look at the Netatmo devices you can see that they have plastic caps and a long plastic notch. I'd bet that the antenna can be found in such an area... I dont think that a small thickness will help to let the radio signal pass. Think of that very thin µ-metal sheet covers on high frequency circuits e.g. in TV or Radio inputs (where you want to stop a radio transmission). They are built to not let radio waves pass and they are thin - so I dont think the thickness plays a major role. As Bulldog wrote paramagnetic blocks radio waves. And aluminum stays paramagnetic even if you reduce the thickness. But I made the experience that relatively small areas, where the radio waves will not get blocked (e.g. plastic caps) can make the difference between no signal and "its working". Also keep in mind that nearly all antennas have a direction. So changing the orienation of the antenna might dramatically change the transmitting capabilties.

@samppa yes, but you saw the little point functions your arduino is very capable of, yes? if you post your attempt at a sketch to control your fan (or even pseudo code) we can certainly help you code it up for Vera.

I built a trip wire for the post box that I'm connecting. It's however based on a mercury tilt sensor so I'm really not sure whether I think it's a great idea putting it to use (at least not with a sturdy case...). @YuryPol as far as I know, all licenses require some form of documentation. In all cases I know of, this is documented with the license or on the licenses official site.

@daulagari There are some on AliExpress. A bit cheaper than Antratek but not much. Not 100% sure you get the Uno shield adapter but it seems so. Still no big deal with the price since we only need one gateway.

What about a vibration sensor? At least in my kitchen, the fans do produce a slight vibration to the metal roof thing. They pretty cheap on Ebay, I must try it myself...
