Water level sensor (inches) to integrate into hardware

Anyone know of a piece of hardware that can read water level (example: cup of water) by inches/centimeters off a sensor that I can integrate into a raspberry pi project I'm working on?
Nothing complicated, I just need to be able to read water level and store that value.

Dunno, depends a bit on context. You could use a strain gauge underneath the cup to measure weight. Or an ultrasonic distance sensor pointing down bouncing off the water? Youd have to seal everying in silicone or epoxy due to moisture I suppose.
