Ethernet gateway with logic and I/O

I'm a newcomer and after playing a bit with arduino and sensors - I'm hoping for some direction. Essentially I would like to have 2 or 3 ethernet connected arduino's talk to my Vera using the ethernet gateway. This is the easy part and I have one connected already. The harder part is that I want to run logic and I/O on the same arduinos and connect I/O to the Vera. In effect I want to bypass the wireless sensor/gateway linking completely. I hope this makes sense and I would really appreciate guidance on how best to approach this. Thanks to the mysensors community for an awesome site. Peter
