MQTT GW and ACK

Hi, I'm using mqtt gateway on a raspberry pi controller. When sending data from sensors with ack request, I can see in the gateway debug log that the ack message from the GW to the node also requests an ack (from the sensor node), at least I can see the NACK status in the GW on the ack message. Is this normal ? Can it be switched off ? Acking the ACK message has no purpose :)
