So this is a little off topic from MySensors, but I have seen posts from people asking how to use a sonoff with Vera controllers. I took some time and wrote up a blog post on how to do this using the ESP Easy firmware with modifications I did to an HTTP Switch plugin to make things work. I use these with my MySensors in wall scene controllers and they work great.

@nagelc thank you for directing me to the log parser. It helped me to understand that my issue caused by lack of INCLUSION_MODE messages that is easily solved by uncommenting MY_INCLUSION_MODE_FEATURE in my gateway sketch. The second part of the question stays valid. I realize that choosing the "right" controller is much more than choosing the controller that works good with MySensors. Anyway, I appreciate any personal experience on that.

@Fwessels OpenHAB does currently not deal with assigning node IDs. I guess it is possible using the serial binding as I have seen described in another thread, but I don't think anyone has implemented it yet. I have just finished porting one of the mqtt scripts to work with a serial connection as well as the existing socket interface, and am currently thinking of extending this (assuming that the author thinks it's a good idea) to assign node IDs. I think this should be relatively easy to implement, in which case that Perl script will be all you need between MySensors, a mqtt broker and openhab. By the way, I'm running openhab on a five-year-year-old Intel platform running ubuntu server. It starts up in 10 to 15 seconds and is a more than powerful enough platform to handle every conceivable home automation need I can think of. And it was free since it was just lying around doing nothing. Okay, there is some noise and higher than necessary power consumption, but in a big house in Norway that is not a problem

@korttoma Thanks. I completely understand the need for family.I should have thought to link the two topics myself. So far, since changing the FTDI adapter things have been for the most part smooth. The only thing I am having an issue with is my thermostat bridge node. Details are in this thread if you have any suggestions.

As you confirmed you had your gw / sensors running on 2.x I gave it another try and started from scratch, and wiped the eeproms on both my gw and node. New Install of Arduino IDE, new MySensors Library install. I used the ethernet gw sketch example and a temperature sensor node sketch. This time it worked, I was able to finally include the sensor, what I can tell from the debug output communication seems to be working flawless. Even when cutting power from gw or sensor and powering up again communication is recovering. Now I will work on adapting my old sensor node sketch on lib 1.4 to new 2.1 requirements. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me get this going
