    • RE: Mysensors node losing connection until reflashed?! (Domonticz controller)

Which logs are we looking for? From the gateway, from Domonticz or from the nodes? Or all of the above? :). I'm pretty sure I know how to grab the logs from Domonticz but I'll have to look up how to grab them from the gateway and/or nodes. Let me know which one(s) you need and I'll post them up here.

      Thanks again!

    • Mysensors node losing connection until reflashed?! (Domonticz controller)

I've been testing Domonticz as a controller for mysensors. I managed to build and get working an Ethernet gateway running on an uno, and 4 humidity/temp sensors using various hardware (mini pro and nano's and dht111 and dht22 sensors). The one thing I've had issues with so far is sometimes the sensor will show up in Domonticz with a red "banner" meaning it hasn't received any communication from that node recently. I first tried resetting the node by power cycling them but that doesn't seem to work. What I discovered works every time is to simply plug the node into my computer and reflash the sketch.

What could be going on here? Should I watch the gateway for errors? The individual nodes for errors?

I'd like to push forward and start making some battery powered nodes with contact switches the watch my doors and windows as an alarm but if they randomly require a reflash that's going to make it difficult to have a reliable system!

The sketches are all 100% default and unchanged from how they are installed with the mysensors install.

Happy New Year and thanks for all the help the forum members have already provided!

I switched to a wiz5100 based uno gateway and it all works fine. I'd still like to figure out whats going on with the ESP8266 setups. I'll do some searches like you suggested or post in the 8266 thread if I can't find anything.

      Thanks!

    • RE: Can't get controller to see contact switch status changes "binaryswitchsensor"

Discovered my new problem was partially my fault, i screwed up the IP address on the controller config pointing to the ESP-gateway. Fixed that and now I see the sensors again, but I still don't get any updates from the contact sensor. I guess I'll try a motion sensor script just to see if I can get something other than the temp sensor working. I might also try a LAN-shield style gateway just in case that's a problem (I honestly have no clue).

Here is the serial monitor dump from when the ESP8266 randomly decides to reset:

    • RE: Can't get controller to see contact switch status changes "binaryswitchsensor"

I started watching the serial monitor for the gateway and it seems to crash and reboot about half the time when it receives data from one of the sensor nodes but it ONLY seems to do that when it's connected to the controller. If it's not paired with the controller (so not trying to forward data to it) it doesn't crash. That's a new problem that started with the beta upgrade.

I'll toss the "stable" version of Domonticz on my other raspberry pi and see if the issue goes away. It probably won't resolve the original problem but will at least be back to actually seeing nodes!

    • RE: Can't get controller to see contact switch status changes "binaryswitchsensor"

So I upgraded to the beta version and it didn't help. So I deleted the nodes under the "setup" section for the gateway and deleted the devices under the devices tab. Now even after resetting the controller, esp8266 gateway, and each "node" the controller won't find ANYTHING at all! At least before I had a functional temperature sensor attached and it saw the window contact sensor, it just wouldn't sense any changes in its status.

I was so excited to have actually gotten something half working (OpenHAB was a total failure in my last attempt) and now it's doing nothing and doesn't seem to provide any errors or troubleshooting data!

The LOG tab doesn't show anything other then the gateway being connected. Serial monitor shows the same stuff it did before, happily updating when I move the contacts on the door sensor or updating the temperature when I blow on the DHT11 node.

Any ideas where to even begin? I'm half tempted to reinstall the controller and re flash all the microcontrollers.

I would update to the latest BETA build. We are at v2.3790 right now. A bit further then the 3530 version (which I think is the "stable" version).

The beta has been very solid for me, and has al the latest bugfixes.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll try a reboot of the controller first and if that doesn't help I'll update to the beta. I installed the server by using the SD card image. Are there any instructions for upgrading my current install to the latest beta build or do I need to drop it on a SD card like I did to originally install it? (its on a Raspberry Pi B+).

First I'm going to get some sleep so my brain will function again!
      Thanks!

    • Can't get controller to see contact switch status changes "binaryswitchsensor"

I'm using the sketch for the binaryswitchsensor and it connects to the ESP8266 gateway and shows up as a switch but shows "Closed" and never seens to change its status. Watching the serial monitor I see the arduino picking up that im moving the magnet next to and away from the sensor, but the controller doesn't seem to "see" those changes!?

Here is what I see on the serial monitor (0=sensor touching, 1=sensor "open" not touching):

      sensor started, id=3, parent=0, distance=1
      send: 3-3-0-0 s=3,c=0,t=0,pt=0,l=0,sg=0,st=ok:

It seems to default to Type as "Lighting 2" and Subtype "AC" in the devices section of Domoticz and I thought changing that might help but it doesn't seem to be possible to edit those values (I can't find them anywhere). I'll add 3 photos showing what I'm seeing in the various screens on Domoticz:

Apparently me and anything arduino related are like oil and water, yet I keep buying the stuff.

I tried this on my laptop and it worked fine (the compile verify did anyway) so I'll be reinstalling the IDE and trying again and hopefully that resolves my issues!

      • dont post on FB that you are on holiday

If you do a lot of those things, the internal alarm system can be very simple: Just put some movable motion-sensors in the corridor and important rooms in the ground floor and connect them to a very loud siren outside, to the smoke-detectors inside and to all the lights, rolling shutter you have....just let the house go crazy :D. There is really no need for a "professional" alarm-system for a private (single-family) house in my opinion.

      Andreas

Done, done, done, done(lots of police in the neighborhood too), done, not done, don't have one, don't ever post stuff like that on FB. I strongly suspect I have something else you didn't list (because you can't sadly) based on your use of the words "hedges" and "holiday". That's actually the main point behind wanting the alarm, to wake me up if someone breaks in while we are asleep. As long as an alarm goes off and wakes me up then anyone stepping foot in the bedroom is getting shot. Such things are exceedingly rare around here thankfully, of the three I've read about in the past 5 years 2 of them ended very badly for the home invader and one ended badly for the (unarmed) homeowner.

Anyway, the nerd factor of being able to see the status of all the windows and doors, the temp and humidity and if lights are on in each room, etc all also play a factor in my wanting to build something like this. It sounds fun ;). I've already built a security camera around a PI and that is pretty cool and useful to see who's at the door.

The problem with motion sensors is the cats and the house is a ranch so "ground floor" is just outside our bedroom and also a high traffic area (even at night, say to use the john without waking the spouse). A dog would be fun just to piss off the cats. Though it's unfortunate you can't really have say a panther or leopard instead. A dog would bark but the big cat would just hide and wait for the free meal.. ;). (The problem being that at some point it's not unlikely the cat would look at you the same way, as a free meal..)

    • Using mysensors for alarm build?

I've been digging and digging for a way to setup a DIY alarm with wireless sensors. It seems that of the options out there I either have to hack together something not intended to be an alarm (openHAB, etc), or use something i'm not totally comfortable with (privateeyepi, which is free but requires internet access so it can "call home"... why does it need to do that?!).

My problem is any of the off the shelf solutions (even the more DIY focused ones) end up costing 30-50$ per sensor even for window sensors and I have 14+ windows/doors to protect!

I haven't seen any projects or info about using a wireless/wired bridge setup but am wondering if anyone has done that and if it would be workable? Basically what I'm thinking is you could use the NRF24 (or whatever) sensor builds from mysensors.org and have them talk to a "master" arduino near the alarm hub/console/etc. Then just run direct connections from the pinouts on the arduino to the alarm. Then as far as the alarm is concerned the sensors are directly connected to it. Of course the problem with the idea is at the moment I can barely write a loop to flicker an LED! Guess re-learning C is the priority at the moment (I took it in school 20 years ago).

Maybe I'm using the wrong search terms?

I'm open to other radios then the NRF24 series, I just happen to have 4-5 of them already. I also have a handful of the ESP8266 modules and two of the Particle boards (Spark Core and one of the newer Particle models).

Thanks for any help or suggestions!
