    • RE: My Vera 3 (UI7) keeps on rebooting

      Hello,

I actually got a reply from Vera support and they offered to call me to help out. After 45 minutes (which was mostly consisting of waiting on Vera the issue was resolved).

I hope that none of you would ever have to deal with this, but in case you do, these are the steps to follow:
(The document is from Vera support, I've just made a few minor enhancements. I also used the Putty as telnet client)

      ================

      How To restore Vera 3

      1. Connect your computer directly into the LAN1 port on the Vera3 unit
      2. Plug the power adapter in Vera and when the power led starts blinking red (amber), press and release the reset button.
This is the most important step because it puts the unit into flashing mode. If this is successful you will see the the power light blink red/green very fast. (If you press the Reset button while plugging in the power cord it won't work)
      3. Put a static IP on your computer (192.168.1.2) and the gateway 192.168.1.1
      4. Run Putty and select connection type to Telnet. Make sure that the port is set to 22 and type 192.168.1.1 as host address. When you are connected type (or rather paste) the commands below. (The third command will reboot Vera and in my case I never saw a response on the Putty terminal - it acted like the Vera hung)

      flash_eraseall -j /dev/mtd7
      sync
      echo b > /proc/sysrq-trigger

Now the Vera unit should reboot and you should see it booting up. It might take a couple of
seconds, first the LED should be solid red, then green, red and after that it should boot up
      6. Change your IP address back on automatically or 192.168.81.2 and gateway 192.168.81.1
      7. Check that the Dashboard loads (i.e open up a web browser) on 192.168.81.1 after all the LEDs are on and solid green.

      ================

After this I went to the Vera UI and Settings | Backup and chose an relatively old backup (checked the Restore Z-wave network checkbox) and 20 minutes later my Vera was back to it old self again.
Tried again to install DataMine2 and this time it seems to work without breaking Vera.

    • My Vera 3 (UI7) keeps on rebooting

      Hi all,

I've just tried to install DataMine2 for my Vera 3 in order to get chart data for my temperatures. In order to get the DataMine (DM) plug-in to start working it seemed as a reboot of the Vera was needed. I know from previous experiences that rebooting the Vera might lead to loosing the serial port configuration and that the config does not easily show up in the UI, but rebooting seemed inevitable so I gave it a try.

Anyway, I rebooted the Vera and the DM plugin seemed happy with this. Obviously the serial port config did not show up, so I tried to reboot a few more times. Suddenly (after the second reboot) the Vera started to reboot by itself. As soon as the Z-Wave led lights up, all the other leds light up as well, and then the unit restarts (i.e. the power led is the only led that is lit and it shifts between green and red in a slow blinking booting up manner).

Unfortunately I was stupid enough not to take any backup of my z-wave settings, but I've finally (after the initial agression towards Vera settled) come to peace with the fact that I have to go around the apartment and re-include all of my z-wave switches.

Anyway, does anyone have any idea on how to reset the Vera ? I've google quite a lot without much luck and tried this link but it seems to be using a upgrade.exe file written 2006 and is not compatible with Win 10 that I'm running (it requires Win XP).

Any suggestions on getting my constantly reboting Vera 3 (UI7) back to this life would be highly appreciated even if it requires a re-inclusion of my z-wave devices.

      Thanks
      Magnus

The usual Vera log /var/log/cmh/LuaUPnP.log should contain key messages from the nodes and plugin.

I use DataYours on Vera with CIFS-mounted NAS for data logging and display (but I am biased. I wrote it.)

      Thanks akbooer,
Ah. Thanks for the log tip.
It's okay to fancy something you wrote yourself. 😄
From your description it seem to fit my bill, so I'll give it a try !

Looks like SB#2 and SB#3 has the same id (2). Did you by any chance start them up the first time simultaneously?

If they have the same id you have to clear eeprom on one of them and start it again.

I don't think that I started them at the same time, but maybe I was too close. Can't really remember.
I'll have to wait a few days to clear the eeprom, since the FTDI USB to TTL Serial Adapter has not arrived yet. 😢

@Magnus-Sydoff Did you delete the nodes in Vera before reincluding them? I notice the Lib version did not show up on your node #2 which may indicate the transmission from the node to Vera was incomplete, possibly radio problem. Do you add capacitors to the radios? How far are the nodes from the GW when attached to Vera?

Thanks for you reply Dwalt .
No, actually, I didn't, but obviously I should have removed the nodes in Very before reincluding them. For some reason I got the impression that it wouldn't help removing them.
Approximately one hour after my post the lib version showed up up on node #2, so the nodes look the same.
I've a 4u7 cap on the GW radio, but on the Sensebenders I do not have any. When I tried the setup I had a distance between the nodes and the GW of approximately 10 cm. Later I moved the nodes some 10 meters away and it seems to work equally well. However I noticed that the mid version of NRF24L01+ (i.e the larger of the ones with antenna on the PCB) seems to work better than the one with an "external" antenna.
On the GW I use the external antenna version of NRF24L01+, but maybe I should try to change that.

    • [Noob] Inclusion problems with Vera

      Hi all,

Recently received 3 pieces of the nicely designed Sensebender Micro and obviously tried to connect them to my Vera 3 (still running UI5)

After having some issues configuring the serial port in the Vera plugin (tried to find Arduino Gateway Plugin, but it turns out it's named My Sensors plugin, which I missed) and general Vera confusion where Vera failed to run the LUA scripts, finally the My Sensors plugin seemed to be happy.

Anyway pressing the Start button on the My Sensors Plugin (version 1.4) three devices were found
      MySensorsPlugIn.png

At first, only one sensors was shown in Vera UI, but a refresh of the Vera UI (F5 and the Reload button in Vera IU) made another show up.
However the third is nowhere to be found. I know physically which of the three nodes it is that does not show. I've changed radio ( NRF24L01+) with one of the others but the problem persist, i.e. only two are shown in Vera.
I even tried to reset Vera (by pulling the power plug but the cold-reset did not change anything. (I also learned that it seems that a reconfiguration of the serial port is required after a cold-reset)

If I try to press the Start button for another inclusion and reapply power to the nodes, no node is found. Still I believe that all Sensebenders are working correctly, since if I plug in the GW to the computer and power up my Sensebenders one by one, I can see the following in the GW serial output for each one.

      SB #3
      0;0;3;0;9;read: 2-2-0 s=255,c=3,t=11,pt=0,l=17:Sensebender Micro

      1;255;3;0;11;Sensebender Micro

      Questions:

      1. Can I force a re-inclusion of nodes in any way? (Or should they show up each time?)

      2. Is there some kind of logs that I should be looking at to get more information?

      3. A bit off topic, but what data-log plugin (for getting graphs etc.) do you recommend?

      King regards
      Magnus

I use two versions of the radio as seen
