    Was looking to build some battery backed solar nodes and came across this little chip.

    High efficiency buck/boost converter w/ two power sources and in a reasonably friendly DIY package.

    Seems like a nice part to build a remote solar node off of.

    Any thoughts?

      Not this one, but I've ordered some MAX1724 which are also in a "friendly DIY package".
      The only external component needed is a inductor.

      The idea was to get 3.3V out of a single AA battery.

      The max1724 can operate down to 0.8V.

        That's exactly the kind of application this part was designed for, so it should work well.

          You might want to take a look at the LTC3525-3.3. It's a competing part with significantly better efficiency.

              Yes, the LTC3105 is also an excellent choice for operating from a single solar cell, which is what is was designed for.

              I'm sorry, I was un-clear in my previous response. I had been suggesting the LTC3525 as an alternate to the MAX1724.
