MySensors and Z-Wave
-
I have a feeling that my Gateway interferes with my z-wave stick (usb) reception.
Not 100% sure but shortly after removing the Gateway from my Mac Mini an unreliable connection became reliable again.Does this make sense in any way and, if so, is there something I can do about this?

well, they are both Serial device, perhaps you need to decouple one/both.
-
@BulldogLowell Hmm, I see two possibilities:
- As you mention the fact that they are both serial devices.
- Although the z-wave and nRF24L01 use different bands I can imagine that, having the 2 gateways near to each other, they interfere with each other.
Not sure though.
Can anybody tell me if it would be possible to use an ethernet gateway with a mac and how hard it would be to make it work (simply to check if it makes or breaks the z-wave network)?

Hello,
at minima, the Mac USB will power the gateway in reception mode, if you can launch the Arduino IDE with the serial console you can speak through.
I've noticed (or a side effect) of the 433 Mhz conflict when they are close, but now all is fine. I have in the same room the 433Mhz the 868Mhz and 2.4Ghz for Wifi and nRF24L01. It is less painfull that when I had the 4G inside antenna above my head...

Hmm, I will do some further testing later.
Right now it looks like one of my Nano's is toast so I will have to order a new one first...
-
Ahhh.. the smell of burnt electronics...
-
I have my central node sitting on top of my Vera lite and 25-30cm I have an RFXcom which is also 433mhz and they all do live happy for now.
-
seems like they should play together OK
-
@hek @ferpando Maybe, just maybe... The toasted Gateway caused the mentioned issue. To be honest I hope so
Anyway, I ordered 2 new Nano's so I hope the quality is better than before.
(Or at least you @hek will earn a little money because I used the MySensors store link).
-
i wich I could blame the quality on the Nano I recently fried.
It was just me doing something dumb, as usual!
-
@BulldogLowell and, what was the dumb thing you did
-
powered it on the breadboard and the USB at the same time. I fried the breadboard power supply and the Nano...

ok now I have a verified case where both an OWL CM180i and the gateway/sensor ? stopped communicating at the same time (12am) and started again at 17pm... both !
There's been no home activity in the between, and I already observed that (what I mentionned above...) a week ago.
What those have in common ? sensor and gateway are close together, as is the rfxcom, the CM180i (I have two) are two stairs below, but only one was not reporting... (last time it was both)I've seen in the RFM12/b there is a sniffer to see if there is a canal collision, here we are on different frequency ranges, why would so happen ?
