  • Discreet APA102 or SK9822?
    J johnyradio

    hello

i've purchased some hi-watt RGB LED's, similar to these:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/100W-100Watt-RGB-Red-Green-Blue-High-Power-LED-Light-Lamp-Panel-Chip-DIY/401361314623

i want to make an addressable string of 50 of these big guys , preferably using 4-wire protocol (with clock wire).

How? I don't mind if it's a chip or a whole module. Also don't mind if it uses some other protocol-- does not have to be a standard.

I cannot find a discreet APA102 or SK9822-- those chips seem only to be available on a board with an LED.

    Could any of these work?

  • LED Strip: Heat vs. Waterproofing

@zboblamont said in LED Strip: Heat vs. Waterproofing:

@johnywhy If the surface to which it is to be attached gets quite hot, perhaps insulation from that surface might be a solution?

    Good suggestion!

@ThetaDev said in LED Strip: Heat vs. Waterproofing:

the ones with some clear and flexible gunk on the top side covering the LEDs can be heatsinked pretty easily by just sticking it on top of an aluminum profile

    • How do you make or obtain the aluminum profile?
    • Where/how do you make holes in the strip?

What would be your use case for the strips?

Bolted to things which might get warm (to the touch), in a warm environment, which might be exposed to rain.

The strip will not be underwater.

    thx

    Hi

Any tips on waterproofing an LED strip,
    while allowing heat to escape?

Or, heat-sinking an already waterproofed strip,
    or strip with waterproofed LED's?

    thx
