Re: OTA Programming over wire ? :-) (RS-485)

I can confirm this can be done. I had all sorts of trouble with compiling bootloaders and ended up using the precompiled sensebender micro bootloader (which uses pin 8 for CS (SS) activation of SPI memory). The way around this for now was moving the rs485 to the hardware serial port and disabling all debug output. I went with a 3.3 Arduino Pro Mini and level shifter for the MAX485 module (thats all i have here). I've done 3 firmware updates over the wire using MYSController and so far am impressed with the results. I would like to compile a new DualOptiboot and move the SS pin but can't seem to make this happen.

Very messy breadboard, but just for an idea.

@rejoe2 - have you received the CAN modules yet? I’m very interested to see how they go

@pjr that sounds promising. My Serial gateway and one node ran for months with no problems. I’ve since added a node in between the two and that’s when I started having issues. Removing resistors on the middle node (terminating, pull-up and pulldown) and removing the pull-up and pull down on the end node seem to have fixed the issues for now however when I added an extra 20m to the cable run I started having issues again. I’de Love to get this network working 100% but I think a lot persistence and patience is needed! :)

@pjr Is the network still operating ok? Curious to see if anyone has it fully operational as of yet.

Thank you for all of your hard work on this project! I’ve used the boot loader and had successful OTA updates using the nrf24l01. Would adding RS485 support to the MYSBootloader be possible or is that not practical? Regards.

Did you ever get this feature working on the RS485 transport @Redguy ? I'm also building a rs485 mysensors network and would love to know how you went.

I would like to attempt the irrigation controller with this binding, I believe the "light" thing is used. This only has channels: Status, Battery, LastUpdate. Is it possible to add more channels to the light thing ?, ie: V_VAR1 ... V_VAR3, regards.

Just added this to my sensor node:

#define MY_NODE_ID <X>

and everything came together. Thank you for your quick reply.

Has anyone else got this working alright ? I've connected 5v, GND, pins 8 to RD. 9 to DI. DE + RE to 2 and connected the rs485 modules via A B. Not getting any replys. Does the rs485 link need a resistor across it? Cheers.
