Yes, the Fibaro APIs is today somewhat limited. I hope they open up more in the future.
I posted question about Fibaros apis/openness a few moths ago. But some members of their community were almost upset at me and questioned how I could propose such a strange thing. They said that I didn't understand the HC2 platform and how to use it.
The problem is you cannot have a open socket to anything external. You cannot access the USB ports. You cannot programmatically create virtual devices. You cannot set custom variables by posting through their http-api.In order to create a plugin you'll have to put more intelligence into the gateway at do http-polling from the HC2.
