Bosch BMP280 Normal mode

Thanks to you guys, i am working on one BMP280 peoject now. I found public API C code which details the use case for "Forced mode". However it tells nothing on how to use the "normal mode". So the question for the mode:
Is this mode widely implemented by the end user?
If everyone use the normal mode, do they continuously polling the "measuring" field of the status register and try to detect a 1 to 0 falling event, then read out the result immediately?
