    Hi,

My son has saved up some money for his first laptop. It will primarily be used for minecraft.

I consider to recommend him to buy one of these two, which are within his budget. However I cannot decide which (if any). Any suggestions?

I've only got bad experience with acer aspire computers, the build quality is terrible, and usually they use outdated hw, and bloat it with unnecessary programs.

Look for a refurbished pc from refurbish.dk (if I remember right) would be a better deal

        @arraWX
        Just wondering,

Will your son control minicraft via some remote construction in which mySensors is involved?

As far as I can see from the use of my son, there's no particular need for desktop speed while using minecraft. He's using one of my older laptops (laptop age: 5-6 years) and never complains about speed, although he often ends up as a winner in battles. This implies IMHO that minecraft is not a processor / video demanding application as far as I can see.

Choose the cheapest one, he'll need his money for beer drugs and preservatives in a few years time ;-)

        good luck,

        Boozz

Isnt the only difference the cpu and the amount of RAM?

The one with more RAM is slightly thicker (but also a bit cheaper), so it all comes down to size vs some extra ram.

There are many things to consider that isn't performance related, but giving recommendations on non-performance factors is hard since different people like different things. Is low weight important? Large screen? High screen resolution? The way the keyboard is arranged? Battery life?

Performance-wise, here is a comparison of the CPUs:
            http://cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2259&cmp[]=2556

            And the graphics cards:
            http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=3155&cmp[]=3192

Here are minecraft's recommendations (both computers meet the "recommended criteria so this might not matter)
            https://help.mojang.com/customer/en/portal/articles/325948-minecraft-system-requirements

Both computers can be upgraded to 16GB RAM. Upgrading is usually pretty cheap (you can buy something like this and insert yourself which means adding 8GB will cost 269DKK/40USD which is great value for the money if you ask me) and can extend the life of the computer several years. I think laptops with i3, i5 and i7 6100, 6200 and 6300 support 32GB ram if you want the possibility to upgrade that far.

I used to sell Computers (first job) and Acer Laptops were out biggest seller - and largest warranty claims. Stay away from Acer unless you plan on buying the Cadillac of extended warranties. If you are looking for build quality, I would recommend IBM (Bit pricey) or HP. We have been using HP computers where I work now for a few years now, and our laptops and desktops all have little to no issues with the overall build quality. Sometimes components fail (ex. hard drives) but that can happen with any PC.

Thank you all for your comments!

We ended up discarding the acer and bought an asus gaming laptop at a similar price.

So far my son is very satisfied.
