    Is it possible to switch the LED blink modes So that they are off and blink on message/error or should i inverse this with hardware?

        @John My guess whould be to pull the led to VCC instead of GND..

          Yeah, i think i will go for an HW solution... Maybe with a switch to choose between modes...
