What is the difference between arduino nano (FT232 chip) and arduino nano CH340 chip ?

can i use a arduino nano with ch340 Instead of arduino nano with FT232 chip for my gateway and my sensors ? without any change in code and any things ?

The FT232 and the CH340 are both serial to usb ICs.
The CH340 is often used on Chinese Arduino clones.

There is no difference on the user side, expect that you need to download and install drivers on windows for the CH340. (On Linux included)

Personally i'm happy that they are switching to the ch430 instead of using ftdi ft232 clones.

@Reza what controller are you using? Its all a matter of, if the host-system can handle the ch340 ic.

Vera can only handle a genuine FTDI chip (why they don't fix this is really a Vera support question). It has been mentioned a few times on the main site and on the Vera controller page.

If you use a controller running on RPI or some other modern OS it usually recognises the ch340 modules just fine.

I am using an arduino uno as gateway and my sensors are the chip arduino minipro with the ch340 , but you do need the ch340 programer and drivers $6 dollars at amazon

hi , so you can use ch340 chip for your sensors and your actuator without any problem? just your gateway is a ft232 chip ?

ok now I have a verified case where both an OWL CM180i and the gateway/sensor ? stopped communicating at the same time (12am) and started again at 17pm... both ! There's been no home activity in the between, and I already observed that (what I mentionned above...) a week ago. What those have in common ? sensor and gateway are close together, as is the rfxcom, the CM180i (I have two) are two stairs below, but only one was not reporting... (last time it was both) I've seen in the RFM12/b there is a sniffer to see if there is a canal collision, here we are on different frequency ranges, why would so happen ?

@eddiever Plenty of gas sensors around and information on this forum and elsewhere, probably using the search function at the top of the page will reveal someone has already used one for the gas you are trying to sense. It's not something I have found a need to investigate, my only interest in gas was measurement of consumption of gas supply. All my other gas interests arose from drinking too much beer...

Yes, the configure script would have to be modified to support PJON. But I'm not sure that's enough. I ran ./configure and then edited Makefile.inc, where I replaced -DMY_RADIO_RF24 with -DMY_PJON. Yeah that does seem to be the case. But I have read that some were having success so I gave it a go anyways... I can't see me having much time for a while to give this another go, so i'll probably wait until i can roll back to UI5.

I have since been diverted onto other troubleshooting but I no believe this was a serial port permissions issue. When I used this command ls -l /dev/ttyUSB* I could see that only the “root” user and the “dialout” group have proper permissions to use the serial port, so I added pi to the dialout group. Thanks for your help
