RFM95 with arduino mega 2560 with shield w5100

  • Greetings to all, I am new to the forum, I do not speak English very well, I am creating a mesh network of sensors with RFM95. I have arduino mega 2560 and shield ethernet w5100 and RFM95, I want to create a gateway to upload the data read from the RFM95 nodes through the gateway, the gateway must connect TTN to show the data. I am a beginner I beg you help please, I hope you can guide me thank you very much.

    Welcome to the forum @vititolab
Language is usually not a big problem. You are welcome to use google translate or a similar service if you like.

The things network is LoRaWAN. MySensors is not LoRaWAN.

It sounds like you are trying to build a single channel LoRaWAN gateway. Single channel gateways can be useful, but do not fulfill the LoRaWAN specification, and have several drawbacks.

If you haven't already, read these forum threads in the ttn forum:
    https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/forum/t/single-channel-gateway-part-1/
    https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/forum/t/single-channel-gateway-part-2/
    https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/forum/t/single-channel-gateway-part-3/

Is there a reason you want to connect the gateway to ttn?

  • @mfalkvidd but for none lora purposes a single channel gateway might be just fine. I am also new to my sensors but I have designed several sensors in the past using the microchip rn2483. But then not as a Lora node. They where outdoor temp and humidity sensor which you can stick into the ground. They communicated with a base station several kilometers away (roughly 4km).
We also tested the rfm95, but the performance of the rn2483 was quite a bit better.

That was before I found the my sensors project though. I am thinking about using mysensors now for a new project, but Indoor coverage is pretty important. Large building with loads of concrete and steel. So propably the rfm95 will be best for this also (I have no experience with the nrf5 series, so I don’t know how the coverage of that is).

@percramer absolutely. But plain LoRa doesn't make sense to forward to TTN, does it?

  • Sorry you are right. Is wasn’t reading the post correctly (must have been a little sleepy...)

  • Thank you very much, I will be working on them, since those are the materials that I have to make the prototype of a mesh network with lora .which means that it is from a single channel? .
I need to connect to TTN to upload the information that mobile mesh sensors have, the information is location by gps, time, and sensor measurements. to see them online on a map.

  • but will each sensor node make his own connection to TTN? Or will the sensors use lora modulation and will only the gateway (or controller) connect to TTN?
