Door sensor with wifi
-
My WiFi has two bands. 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
I canβt find a door sensor that will work
with this setup.
Does anyone know of one?

@rockryan Action (750+ stores in Europe) recently added the 'LSC smart connect' series.
The 'LSC Smart Connect doorsensor' (https://www.action.com/nl-nl/p/lsc-smart-connect-deursensor/) costs less than 10 Euros.
And the best thing, it contains an ESP8266 so it runs alternative firmware (Tasmota, ESP-Easy, Arduino, ...)
-
@yveaux but it does not support the 5GHz band that @rockryan asked for.
I don't know why he wants dual band though.
-
@mfalkvidd he says his wifi supports 2 bands and is looking for a sensor that is working with his setup; this sensor will work with his setup
-
@yveaux that does make much more sense than my interpretation
-
@yveaux how frequently the battery must be replaced ? and what kind of battery it has ?
-
@rozpruwacz I don't own it so I don't know, sorry.
I did buy one of their smart plugs and a siren, but both are mains powered.
-
Typically wifi consumes considerable energy for handshake so use wifi on battery isn't the greatest idea. but using it with mains power is quite good
If you want to use battery operated devices, you must use a better protocol than wifi
-
A door sensor might not get that many actuations though, so depending on how often the door is opened/closed, even wifi might get pretty good battery life.
-
@yveaux Thank You very much I will look into it.
-
With battery powered sleeping wifi device will be always delay after door switch sensor action and message sending.
Find AP, connect to it etc.
Couple od seconds.
Maybe good for alarm, but not for switch light.
-
Based on how often the door is opened/closed wifi will get a good battery life.
-
@jurimetrics
Yes, good battery life time, but not good response time.
You open the door and receive message about it after couple of seconds.
With Arduino and rfm69 or NRF24 it is much better.

@tommies
looking for information about PIR and door sensors.
I found this

I have LSC Smart door sensor, it works great. Now I can't imagine my life without smart technologies.
