  Hi, I am interested in this as well, I got the old wood boiler and all its smarts is by 220v and thermostats and relays. I would like to interface those signals with Arduino for displaying some of the boilers states and then maybe automate some things afterward. Til now I thought about a lot of 5v chargers, but this module seems to be more compact.

  It seems that moving to last channel all nodes and gateways solved my trouble. In this moment wifi is under heavy load (upload several video from several phones and tablet) and traffic leds never light the infamous red... neither nodes lost their gateway

  @NeverDie like I said above, it will be a software based solution, without dependencies to external chips. It may still leverage chipset specific features such as RNGs and crypto accelerators.

  Try a longer sleep time then disconnect sensor like previously said and see the consumption, if it doesn't change unplug vcc of the radio module too.

  @ben999 I have a number of switches around my house that I designed myself. They don't have relay control. They just talk to the automation controller and act as basically a scene switch. If you are in the US, this may be an option for you. Here is the thread that talks about it. https://forum.mysensors.org/topic/4317/us-decora-style-wall-switch/34 The way I have mine set up, the switch talks to my Vera controller, and my Vera uses scenes to talk to another relay controller on the light/fan/device that I want to control. Many of the relay controllers that I have are Sonoffs. The response from switch to Vera to Sonoff is near instantaneous. The switches that I designed consist of 3 boards. The power supply board, the controller boardf (arduino pro mini + nRF24 radio) and the switch board. The switch boards that I designed is universal and can be made as a 4 button, 2 button or single button switch. I also have 3D designs for the switch plates that I made.   Hello. Welcome to MySensors. it's up to you to code that in your sketch regarding your controller if it is used. NRF24 = 2.4ghz. No 5ghz option. it depends on your environment. You can change communication channels in your nrf24 nodes, else there is sub-ghz option.. as far as i remember, w5100 ic has the TCP included, so the enc28 needs more resources. and i think w5100 is more reliable etc. in MySensors, there are encryption and signing. it does what it means this is like asking which color do you prefer? I can tell you'll get lot of different opinions on my side I'm using Jeedom for multiple reasons. Best is to compare which one do you prefer regarding your needs. I don't think there is one best of the best.. little trick.. if you need more explanations, I'm pretty sure these topics are already answered on the forum

  I don't have instrumental evidence but again my best guess is that the side opposite of the radio chip is were most likely the EM field is radiated the most, so try to "aim" the antenna side to gateway

  Sorry for my NRF24 clone post yesterday. The ACK bit was an issue with the NRF5 platform. I had switched the memory region to handle TX/RX/ACK packages separately. Sometimes the received packages are written in the wrong region. I had seen my testing ACK bit. Now, I have changed my NRF5 code and I can't see no difference between the modules, I have. ACK and timing are exactly at the same level.

  @sundberg84 The details and methods to release additional pins are all in the documentation, so not a problem, however my original idea was to have capability to swap over devices, hence my reluctance to do surgery. Low energy use info is plentiful on the 5v pro-mini, the booster is the PIA for low energy, so that will probably be relay controlled in any instance... A steep but interesting learning experience...

  I decided to fix the broken trace I so naively destroyed while breaking the power LED out with a screwdriver. The image from @tripy really helped to figure out which trace I actually broke. It helped a lot to desolder the voltage regulator as well, leaving me with pads I can solder to. I left the regulator out after the repair since I am running the thing from 5V USB. With the regulator out of the way the correct pad was easily identified. Maybe someone else finds this useful, definitly saved my kitchen lighting project today

  I agree with @gohan it looks like a nice sensor but it's not available at a reasonable price and doesn't seem to bring any improvement compared to existing sensors like SHT21/si7021 or BME280. Sleep current is low but measuring/average current seems higher than those sensors too.

  From openhardware you can download the Gerber files and have them printed from your favorite pcb factory. As you may have noticed the pcbs supporting rfm69 do usually have a pro mini 3.3v socket. For nrf24 you still can't use lipo batteries without a ldo voltage regulator. Personally I'd prefer the rfm69 as you can choose the frequency you prefer while the nrf24 are stuck to the heavily crowded 2.4Ghz

  Actually yes, if you make an image from a SD card and you flash it back you get a system working at that previous state. I actually use dietpi that has a built in backup/restore feature that I already used few times and it even worked to restore to another RPI also running the same dietpi

  @towme yes, the majority of MySensors users use the nrf24. It is cheap and many users prefer not having to install wires to all their sensors. But, maybe more importantly, nrf24 was the first communication supported by MySensors so the combined community has much more experience with it. All example sketches are supposed to work with any transport type (nrf24, rfm69, rs485, ...). The motion sensor example has a list where users can decide which one to use. But I see that the alternative of not enabling any of the transports might not be intuitive, so there the documentation could be improved. We should probably also update https://www.mysensors.org/about/components#the-radio to better explain non-radio alternatives. Big thanks for your feedback. It is feedback like this that continuously makes the documentation better.

Felix at LowPowerLab has a discussion of testing he did on them for his doorbell design. Looks to be more efficient than the L78M05 in the same footprint.

  The project is that I have a box with objects in it. Each object has a placeholder within the box. I want to place a sensor in the bottom of each placeholder and have it tell me if an object is within the placholder or not. With RFID i want to know what is missing without opening the box.

  Hi...i am a new user here. I built a RFM69 gateway and a node.I decided to place the RFM69 node in a basement storage room. The room has been flooded a few times historically, so being able to monitor humidity in the room seems like a good idea.The room has thick brick walls, which the RFM69-433MHz radio is much more capable to handle than the nrf24. Still, I wanted to keep an eye on the signal strength. Because of this, I added code to the gateway to report RSSI from the node. circuit card assembly

  @maciej initialization of the radio failed. Quadruple check your wiring, assure the radio is powered from a stable 3v3 supply. If all looks fine test with another module.

  @exilit One test report should cover it. I say should as it is really up to the Certifying Body to determine it any further reports are necessary. These could be FCC (radio frequency reports), LVD, CISPAR or statements that report the use of certain products used in the manufacture and disposal of the PCB, Components, Solders etc. Certifying is a very comprehensive process and I think that any advice I give you really is only an opinion as requirements will vary. My feeling is that you should obtain professional advice from a Electronics Engineer who has all the answers to the questions you ask before proceeding any further. In answer to your points, you should be able to obtain certification on a device that has an additional interface, however, the device that interfaces may also need certification or may already have it. Doing it yourself I meant as a a DIY project, oddly if you offer it as such then there appears to be no obligation on your part to seek reporting or certifying advice. Sell it as a kit and buyer beware.

  I know this may sound weird, but I would recommend just going with the basic Sonoff switch and skip the MySensors part. I build a lamp controlled by MySensors a long time ago, has external Tact button for on/off. Works great, took a while to build and I have an ugly box screwed to my lamp now that houses it all. I wanted to build another, but didn't want it be be aesthetically displeasing. I ended up using these (https://www.itead.cc/sonoff-wifi-wireless-switch.html) and they are everything in one small package. You have wifi, a tact button for manual on/off, and it will report to any home automation system using MQTT after flashing some customer firmware (https://github.com/arendst/Sonoff-Tasmota). Just cut the power cable, screw into appropriate terminals and it's all good to go. As much as I love MySensors; for this type of project I think there is a better solution.

  If you want to order PCB, maybe try -Removed by moderator-. They provide rapid prototyping. Their minimum order is at least one board, the board is of good quality. To Poland about four or five days. They now have activities. Can be paid on delivery.

  My plan is to use 2x nimh batteries. Nimh can need up to about 1.5V before they are fully charged (depends on how fast the solar panel can charge them but for a small panel charging will probably be less than 0.1 so 1.45V should be enough to fully charge) These lights usually charge directly from the solar panen to avoid having to add a charging circuit, to keep cost and complexity down. 3x1.45V=4.35V which is more than most 3.3V components can handle. The atmega328 works down to 1.8 with lowest BOD. Rfm69 works down to 1.8. Nrf24 works down to 1.9. At 1V a nimh is almost totally exhausted. So 2x nimh gives enough voltage at the low end for the components I usually use. This avoids adding a step up/down which means lower complexity and cost, and no loss of efficiency due to conversion. These are just my thoughts so far. Hopefully improvements can be made

  Thanks for your reply. Yes, hysteresis programming makes sense. But when I am testing these small voltmeters with a power supply they respond to the 0.01v changes... really strange. I have not try to monitor the voltage with the arduino sensor yet but I did test it with a multimeter that uses a lcd display. Works fine there...

  @mfalkvidd Oh! Yes thank you very much. The fact is that a typo in the description of the product I bought (838 != 868) is what confused me. Now thanks to you I realized it. I'll stick with 868 and see if I can work with it. I live near a frontier with Portugal and those guys here doesn't care about pirate radio emissions and I get strong interferences in radio, wifi and over all 2.4ghz. 433mhz even doesn't have more than 2-3mt of range for me. 2.4ghz only around 7mt @ sight. Bluetooth headphones have dropouts even carrying the phone with you. All of this living in the country. It's very annoying.

  @sola yes, you are correct that the calculation is form2xAA. See the comment inside loop() on the example at https://www.mysensors.org/build/battery for the required calculation, and this part for the voltage divider: The ADC is set to use the internal reference value of 1.1V - so Vmax at ADCmax = 1.1*(16+4703)/4703 = 3.44V You'll need to change the resistors in the voltage divider to handle voltages as high as 8V.

  It is possible to use RFM69 radio via SoftSPI which allow to build gateway with W5100 or ethernet shield. You need to change RFM69 driver and MyConfig.h configuration file. I put modified these files at github repository: https://github.com/gieemek/RFM69_softSPI-for-MySensors-2.1.1 You can find instruction how to prepare gateway sketch at this repository too. My gateway (as MQTT client) with ethernet shield and RFM69 radio via SoftSPI is working for 10 days without any problems.

Yes you should experiment to see. That is the best way to find solutions when you are a "Maker" Does the transmitter also needs more voltage when an antenna is connected? Sorry I am not an RF engineer so am not sure on that, although I would have thought you would achieve best results with an antenna of the correct length connected. As i said previously I know they work better with a higher voltage. From memory (you should check) I think they are good up to 12v At the moment i just connected it to the 5V output of the arduino. Maybe that is >too low for the transmitter with antenna. You should use a multimeter to check the actual voltage. The clone arduino's are sometimes prone to be a bit low on their 5v line as are some computer usb ports, especially if you have a few other devices (keyboard , mouse, speakers etc.) connected as well. Power problems are a common source for causing trouble I always try and power my nodes from a dedicated supply to eliminate this issue. I ordered some boost converter to test with higher voltage. Maybe that helps a >bit Your simplest solution may be to power the test node from a 9v battery. You can supply 9v directly to the arduino VIN pin and also 9v directly to the FS1000 power pin instead of the 5v line. This will at least let you know if it is a power issue. It is also not unusual for these type of remotes to fire off a burst of on or off signals instead of just one transmission. This gives them a better chance of getting the message through. So if you are not doing that already you could try sending a few times separated by around a 10 ms delay. You may need to experiment a bit to see what works best. I know one remote I was working with sent the message 6 times separated by 13 ms.

They make these as boards with the necessary pull-up resistors and things to minimize the need for extra components when breadboarding a circuit for testing or other purposes. You could potentially unsolder the DHT22/AM2302 from the board if it didn't fit your design. You would just then have to remember to include the pull-up in your design.

  @mfalkvidd I can have it output in either 12V or 24V - my choice. I have various SRD-12VDC-SL-C octocoupler relays, but I have no idea how to set it up as a sensor instead of an actuator. @gohan see my reply to mfalkvidd I had a look at the Power Meter Pulse Sensor but I am clueless on how to transfer it to my components.   @sineverba - Nope, gerber is the format for the manufacturer. You have to open .sch for the schematics and .brd for the pcb layout. I recommend youtube as a great source for Eagles tutorials!

What results did you get when you tried in Matlab with the lower sample rate and shorter duration? Will the mcu be able to perform the required calculations quick enough? How much ram will the calculations require? Will the required libraries fit in the flash on the mcu?   Quick followup: After I started looking for them, i saw quite a few traces like this. A lot of them put rows of vias in the groundplane along the trace. I see that this would change the impedance taken from the calculator if they are close (since there is more ground around), but should there be any closeby connection between top and bottom ground? At the beginning and/or end, e.g.?

  Many thanks for your advice. For good or bad, reality is never black or white, but shades of grey. I already thought on switching to RFM69 or try the new LoRa but that would mean switching around 15 already functioning nodes, together with the associated cost. Out of those 15, the few showing problems to communicate with the gw are the furthest ones; those are where where I'm planning to give an oportunity to the new modules linked above. By the way, my gateway already has one PA+LNA module inside, but with an external whip antenna. I actually just installed the first one. I removed the "normal" nrf24 and switched by one of these in the most problematic node. Soldering the wiring into the 1.27mm holes was a challenge; some adapters that should make connection easier should be about to arrive but I was eager to run some tests. For the moment this module seems to have less problems to connect to the gateway - of course I won't be able to draw more final conclusions until it's been in use for some days, but for the moment it looks promising. Of course, should they finally not show a significant improvemen over the former modules, I'll consider testing some of the other options.

  @fhenryco Yes to the first. The 5v supply will give a 5v logic output from the sensor on the echo pin. That must be reduced. Below a good 5v supply these sensors has been found to give unreliable results, although there are many different model numbers which look identical, so it is a bit of a minefield. No to the second, this particular sensor will not work reliably at other than a good 5v supply. The 3v3 is sufficient to give a logical high to the sensor to initiate measurement on this 5v device, a 5v trigger would also work from a 5v board. The echo output is at the sensor voltage of 5v level. If I recall one past thread on this, the poster was getting weird readings using a 3AA supply over time, the booster gave him rock solid readings until the batteries reached 1v.

  @donnib A 3.3V Arduino Pro Mini is recommended for battery powering, see https://www.mysensors.org/build/battery for details. For a comparison between rfm69 and nrf24l01+, see https://forum.mysensors.org/topic/3993/nordic-or-hoperf-radio nrf and rfm use roughly the same amount of power, so battery-wise there is no big difference.

  Personally I would use optocouplers. Using optocouplers gives you galvanic isolation of the two systems and prevents one system from negatively affecting the other. Not that it would under normal operation, but if something were to happen to either the UPS or to the node, you wouldn't get a back-feed of bad power into the other system. I have used the approach that @gohan mentions on my garage door opener node, but I only did that after testing the optocoupler approach and failed. Since you have LEDs that are being driven, the optocoupler approach should be no problem.

  @alexsh1 Yes the new driver is in dev branch. No api docs yet. It won't be default driver until a major rev. Like i said, you need to update your rfm69 gw and nodes, for using it. Else, new and old nodes won't see each other because msg header is different. You can take a look in myconfig.h for settings, and for functions in MyTransportRFM69.cpp or driver.

Yes I poll every 15 seconds and update only if there is a change, then every 15min i poll and post the results regardless of he result. This keeps the node showing as live in domoticz. I also only use the percentage as the trigger for a level change, this allows for a bit of variation before a change is recorded. You can see in the graph for the last 24hrs that it remains static.

  @tailchopper I wonder if you wouldn't be better of on another forum. MySensors provides an infrastructure for home-automation and IoT. If you are not into connecting it to a MySensors ecosystem there are some dedicated PV (power monitoring) forums which probably give you more focussed / better answers. Like Openenergymonitor

  SPI can be blazing fast. A colleague of mine recently implemented some memory interface in the range of two/three digit MBits per second. Intuitively I would say bit banging an 8 bit parallel data input using a microcontroller is slower than using high-speed SPI. Just polling the 8 bits from the pins will take ages...Of course I am assuming you're using a uc and not a FPGA. You need to be precise, just because you can read data faster doesn't mean you can process it faster. I'd be a bit shocked to hear that an accelerometer could produce more data than a standard uc SPI can take...but then, I also have no experience. So I'm also curious what you are planning to do!

  Well, sure enough we work on sensors but more related to home automation. Industrial automation requires higher quality stuff and usually the sensor types are different. About other forum start searching "industrial automation forum" there are some coming out, also I bet there are some in your specific country too. Communities are everywhere

  What @Redguy describes is very close to what I wish to accomplish with my HVAC system. If I start out with modbuspoll and a moxa converter as suggested by @Redguy a few questions arise to me: Is this moxa model the right one? http://www.moxa.com/product/uport_1110.htm How do I connect my HVAC and the moxa? Simply connecting GND, TxD and RxD of the HVAC to the corresponding pins of the moxa (see pictures below)? What about 5VDC? Any helpful people here see any problems in what I am trying to do?   @scalz - You're right. There doesn't seem to be an issue with mouser. I must have gotten hooked up with digikey and some of the smaller sellers. I have a contact ticket open with mouser and the manufacturer for one of the models, as they can't tell me what the code means and the datasheet doesn't specify it either. Will post back here with what the order code "988-AT25DF512CSSHNGU-B" means. The minimum order is £33 for me at the moment, I seem to remember this being a little higher last time i checked, so not sure if its a limited time thing (worth a look if anyone wants anything from there). Is anyone in need of these ICs as i would order some for you and post to you if you just cover the cost of the item and then the postage for them (more than likely cheaper than paying for postage from them at £12 per shipment, to the UK anyway).

  I used a ESP8266WiFi module with a static IP address and that seems to be working fine, but then again, the car needs to be in the neighborhood... Would be nice to have something like a bluetooth module of some kind to detect a bluetooth device such as my phone... gotta keep on dreaming...

  The easiest way to control the leds, if we disregard the radio power problem, is a mosfet. See https://www.mysensors.org/build/dimmer for how to build one, but that solution would need to be combined with SmartSleep or some other method for getting the change to the node without draining the battery.

  @gohan - Dell R710 over here, brought pretty cheaply in the UK tbh. I have a few things running on it as I'm Microsoft trained and certified so i enjoy messing with that kind of stuff. I was once in that field and attempted to get some work but nothing ever came from it (i got sick of hearing "Sorry, you don't have sufficient work experience") so I've ended up back in University studying mechatronical engineering Anyway, that is another topic for discussion, you're welcome to message me anytime for a chat, would be nice
