Sensor == Actuator?

Hi there!.

Firs of, I'd like to thank those involved on this project. I really appreciate your effort and let me know if I can be of any help trying Beta versions of the RPI GW ;)

My main concern is related to the purpose of the "Sensors" within this project. I'd like to sense data, but I also want to send commands to some actuators within the "sensor" network. Will this be possible? Also, will I still be able to control my own devices (sensors/actuators) if I lost my Internet connection (RPI is offline)?
