Thanks for the quick response. Thats what I am using. Settings in Arduino IDE are: board: Sensebender Micro processor: Atmega328 8Mhz Edit: I tried another FTDI, same result :( Both are 3.3v btw Edit2: I was able to flash the sensebender with an ISP. Flashing via FTDI still not working.

I'm not using windows10 however can you try Mysensors openHAB v1 binding or v2 whichever OH version you run. That way OH can understand serial api format, otherwise i think some rules should deployed to understand incoming serial messages. Also it may be "user rights" thing. Does OH run as admin?

@dbemowsk Thank you for the reply. I searched in the meantime and found on the form that 'rs485 on nano' topic describes exactely the same issue I have. I see that you are involved there. I will join that chat as more people are involved.

Sorry, my fault. The receiveTime function is called. The problem was that I had an error in the Serial.println() statement so it doesn't appear in the log.

@mfalkvidd Thanks again. :) Commented the issue too. Hopefully they get that fixed someday soon as it is quite a nasty issue for ESP8266 users.

Think I have fixed it :) I found this topic: https://forum.mysensors.org/topic/4680/mysensors-2-0-ethernet-gateway-atmega-w5100-restart-all-time/5 The answer for me was to downgrade the Arduino AVR Boards to version 1.6.11 (Using Tools/Boards/Boardsmanager) ... It seems there is a bug in the newer release of this tool and the W5100. So hopefully this issue can be fixed, so that in newer releases this is OK. Maybe it is wise to add this to the Ethernet Gateway Page when using a W5100 and Mysensors 2.0 ;)

@scalz in the second test i used that getting started code to test the radio modules with a library other than mysensors. and they worked. (That code is not mine, i suppose it use the maniacbug library). So i did investigate to find the differences between mysensors and that library. Only after replacing, in mysensors, the enablefeatures with that code, i got the communication gw-node.

@Dominic-Bonneau - You mean a Pro Mini 5v? As i said I would change the usb charger to another and see what happens. Also I would make sure i have capacitors on the radio and the wiring/soldering is good. Sounds to me like power issue (long shot without more info) and somethings crash the radio. Please report with logs and sketches if possible.

@Ghydda said: My node running in repeater mode does not flash the RX/TX/ERR leds. Well it came to me. Rookie mistake. The defines for my alternate LED port pins was listed below the MySensors.h include statement and not above it. Once I corrected this error, my traffic LED's blink happily.

@speedie It still could be a capacitor issue. Another thing, check your solder joints and wires to the radio. The first gateway I built worked intermittently and a bad connection was the cause.

Just for future reference, I was able to achieve this by calling _begin after waking up from sleep. After cutting power to the radio, it needs to be setup again. So my code looks something like this at the end of my loop: powerDownRadio(); sleep(SLEEP_TIME); _begin(); Obviously a draw back is the added overhead of setting up the radio again, but if you're lacking the hardware, then this might be good enough. In the long term, though, I've decided to use 2 1.5v batteries, a DC-DC booster, and level shifter to avoid odd code like this. Also, thanks @Nca78 for the regulator recommendations. I've picked up a few low quiescent current regulators to add to my collection.

Looking at the costco price for D-cell batteries (http://www.costco.com/Duracell-D-Alkaline-Batteries-14-Unit%2C-2%2B-Pack-Pricing.product.100322549.html), two D-cells would cost just over $1 plus tax. So, rough BOM: $1 for batteries $1 for PIR $1(?) for battery holder $4 for atmega328p+RFM69HW mote (maybe $2 for an nrf24L01 mote) Total: around $6 to $8 At that price you could afford lots of them, which would also offer a way to correct for possible false positives.
