    Nevermind, I figured it out (sort of). I deleted the serial port from device manager and then checked for hardware updates which reinstalled it. It then worked just fine for one iteration, but the serial monitor showed BinarySwitchSleepSensor output instead of gateway output. And then stopped working. I deleted it again, reinstalled the port, and immediately uploaded the gateway sketch back to it. Now it works great. My guess is that the binary sketch somehow messed up the serial comm when on the Nano? Not sure, but that fixed it. I must have forgotten to switch the port # when I was reuploading the binary sketch to my node and accidentely uploaded it to the gateway port.

    Are you using OpenHab1 or using a beta of OpenHab2? It would be useful if you posted the error you were originally getting. I upgraded my gateway to 2.0 with MQTT so soon will be configuring Openhab but I'll be using Openhab2. Shouldn't make to much of a difference though.

    Quite a few of the old examples have been moved to a new repository (converted to 2.0) because of their to external dependency requirement. You can find the DHT (humidity) example there as well. https://github.com/mysensors/MySensorsArduinoExamples

    @scalz Thanks for all of your advice! It's nice to get help from someone who has already successfully made a ulpnode.

    @scalz Oh ya that makes sense regarding the before() and setup(). Regarding the sketch that doesn't include the radio turn off....I was just referring to the one that had the relevant lines commented out so: void loop() { send(msg.set(20)); //digitalWrite (PER, HIGH); //turn off peripherals // Sleep for 10 seconds (just for testing) sleep(10000); //digitalWrite (PER, LOW); //turn on peripherals //delay(1000); //tried instituting a delay in case it needed a moment for power to stabilize //transportInit(); //re-initialize radio } instead of: void loop() { send(msg.set(20)); digitalWrite (PER, HIGH); //turn off peripherals // Sleep for 10 seconds (just for testing) sleep(10000); digitalWrite (PER, LOW); //turn on peripherals //delay(1000); //tried instituting a delay in case it needed a moment for power to stabilize transportInit(); //re-initialize radio }

    There is an example that exactly gives you what you need. The Relay example is the structure of what you need to use.

    One very important note I would like to make: the gateway must be CONNECTED to a serial device AND the port must be opened (e.g. arduino serial monitor or openhab) , for it to accept connections!!!!. Just powering it from an usb-hub makes it non-responsive to sensors... took some quite a lot of time to figure this out.

    Good to hear that you had a plan :laughing: Now the only problem is that I need to figure out how to connect everything with the sensors and then to openhab. I'm off duty tonight so I'm going to see what Google have for me :)

    Thank you Corbin and NCA78, I had assumed it was my code since I am not very good at it. However it turned out to be a bad sensor. I will post some additional information and pictures in the project section this evening now that everything is working. Thank you again for your help.

    It is, I was going for maximum battery life so I was going to turn off everything while the micro controller was asleep. I'll try just using the built in sleep functionality.

    ahh!!!, you where right. I powered the node using a mobile charger but had not connected the PIR to the same GND as the charger. Now it works.

    Hi @hek and @scalz Thanks for your response. I have been unable to locate the guide I thought I previously found... So I probably misread that. Thank you for the clear answer - which leaves me with only one more ( at the moment :-) )... If I install OpenHAB - will it be able to hand out id's via MQTT? I noticed that the clients without an id keep posting to MQTT... under node id 255... /th

    @kenci ok, I think I know where is your problem. Try to add this in your sketch (before mysensors include of course) #define MY_RF69_IRQ_NUM 1 That should work. I will do the change.
