  Hi These sensors are really quite neat. I got quite accurate measurements from 4,9 to 44 litres/min, I couldn't go any higher, the output fed into the audio input on the PC with a simple and free frequency meter software. Amazing for a few dollars. The downturn is the pressure loss across the meter, 0.08 bars at 15 L/min rising to 0,69 bars at 41.8 L/min : Here are what I measured dP L/min flowmeter 15 0,08 18,4 0,04 24,7 0,21 26,5 0,24 30,7 0,29 34,2 0,4 37,3 0,51 40,0 0,63 41,8 0,72 42,5 0,69

  well, here's the thing. I have 2 of those at home and looks like is the best way to sell this things to my wife! so ... I'll start with this. @AWI, I'm running with openHAB. I have also a VeraEdge here but ... I don't really like it very much. I think I haven't found the trick yet ...

  @scalz I did the same, trying to decide between the two! It is true, I had mysensors working and a smile on my face within 20 mins of finding the website, including building the hardware on breadboard, so great!! With Souliss I am still reading and learning! Only have simple implementations so far. One thing I do like is the wireless local logic abilities, like you say, distributed gateways. I suppose with everything considered you are correct, souliss is far more involved a platform, in general but also from the end user side. I also find on the nodes I have experimented with, it is more memory intensive, but that might be my terrible implementation !! Either way, these platforms are just amazing in their own rights, I dreamed of exactly what they offer a few years back and my studies and research always got in the way, but now its time to play! As @scalz says, I really admire what both developments have produced, just great engineering !!

  @GuyP many posts ago you guided @Moshe-Livne to arduino cc/ file for downloading the bootloader files but I see only the files for 168 DIP and not 328P Do I use the 168p file?

  My setup doesn't work. When i activate the relay directly it works. Pin 3 to ground does nothing. I used the sketch from Moshe. What can i do next?

  So many questions... And many of them is hard to answer without testing+playing around. Coming soon. "gateway-refactoring-branch" will soon be merged into development-branch. Try now if you want. ? ?? Relays usually have bot NO/NC outputs. Not sure I understand what you mean fully. Yes, see the signing support in library. Probably works on a nano but you have to test yourself. Hard to answer. Guess testing in your environment is the only way to know. Same answer as 7

  With PiDome you are able to add options to device skeletons you create (so you can re-use devices). When you add a device to the server you can set these options. Example: You have 5 temperature nodes, you create a skeleton once with your temperature node setup, you add the option poll time with a drop down choosing between 1, 5, 10 minutes (you can also use input fields off course). When you add these devices to the server you then can set the polling time per device. By using the mysensors functionality to do a data request you will be able to get the option's value (See "Requesting data" on the API page: http://www.mysensors.org/download/sensor_api_15). But. The above does not work yet for PiDome as this is not implemented in the mysensors plugin. Too be honest i did not even have thought about it. I have created a feature request for the mysensors plugin to have this implemented at: https://bitbucket.org/pidome/pidome-mysensors/issues/4/be-able-to-create-options-for-devices-in So if you are going to use PiDome or not, this will be implemented (so other users will also be able to use it when it becomes available). I can not yet give an estimate on when this is implemented as the Custom devices editor is on the optimization list, and currently i'm extremely busy with the raspberry pi client to have it compatible on multiple display resolutions (starting from 240*320). You have the possibility to vote for the option so it can go up on the prio list (It is the three of PiDome deciding which option is next to pick up). Regarding of booting all the sensors at the same time. The server does not care. It is capable of handling bulk messages from the gateway. So you need @hek to answer this one.

  Does anyone have any working examples of Sensebender Micro working with a Photon? I have all the parts but finding it difficult to unravel all GW libs and so on. I just want to use my sensebender with a Onewire waterproof temp sensor and for it to report back to the Photon every 5 minutes or so.

  @ewgor, like I said, I couldnt get mine built. Not sure what i did wrong. I got values, but they were the same whether current was going through or not. So i kind of gave up on it for a while. I too need some help getting it built.

  I agree with "notforyou23", the eTape is a great product (although a bit pricy). I use it in this project where i easily keep my pond water level +-5mm. And i rever overfill the pond anymore... https://github.com/epkboan/pc

  @epierre thanks. I do have 4 pins, and im using the analog one. I noticed the increasing value you mentioned. I tried to get raw and got a value, but when taking into the mic, the value doesn't appear to change. Does yours?

  @ThomasDecock No I wasn't, I was able to get the standard dallas temperature working(because I thought the sensors no longer work), but unfortunately my time on this is pretty limited. I hoped I got it working until I go on vacation, but probably will look into it after. I would appreciate if someone could help with it, I think everyone would.

  @ServiceXp I'm not sure. I looked around for similar devices almost a year ago, and didn't find any consumer grade chargers or monitors which had such, though there were a few commercial devices for the larger flooded cells which appeared to monitor the fluid level somehow. Some even monitored the specific gravity of the electrolyte, but I'm sure those cost more than several 'basement watchdogs. I suppose I could try to decode the simpler-looking circuit on the 'emergency' model and try to figure out what it was doing, but I think I've forgotten what little I actually learned in Circuits class back in college.

  Hmm.. firmware updates in the field are not that easy, when you have to stand on a ladder to do the update. Luckily I can place my laptop on the top of the wall, just under the roof in the barn. Maybe I should do something about OTA firmware updates.. On the other hand, then I wouldn't see that the controller went haywire, and tried to close an already closed port, which almost broke the chain drive for the port..   @epierre I'm afraid I haven't gotten around to it yet. Partly because I have my CCTV that automatically feeds me images of whoever has the misfortune of stepping on the porch and triggering the motion detection so I haven't been in any great hurry exactly. I have all the components around here somewhere though. Don't know if the ACS712 + logic level conversion is still the easiest approach or if we're over-complicating things here.

I forgot to mention the zero-cross detection (on pin2), you will need it if you dimm regular AC bulbs (doesn't matter how many dimmer channels you have, only one zero-cross is enough). The picture above show the zero-cross on top and one dimmer channel on bottom.

  For the internet you could add a GSM shield to the gateway or a 3G usb stick to the Rpi. If you only pay for the data that's send than you could leave the internet on 24/7. I would put the Rpi running the controller in the same house as the gateway so no data is lost because of a loss of the internet connection. If you would want to connect to the controller to check the statistics or status of the switches and sensors you would connect to the controller via the internet. Using a dynamic dns service it wouldn't be a problem if the ip-address of the controller changes. Sensors are connected to the arduino via cable. The sensor arduino connects to the gateway wirelessly. Thinking of it you could connect the Rpi to a VPN server running in your home so it will get a local ip-address of your home network. That way there's no need for the dynamic dns service.

  @Moshe-Livne I agree that a floating valve would be a better solution if you had a fixed installation. This would allow you to keep the water on at all times and have the water barrel top itself off continuously. We have such a system, but it is a pain to run the pipes to everywhere the horses need the water, especially in winter when it's freezing. This means we have one of these, but the rest are filled using a regular hose. The implemented solution works well for having a hose lying around and stretching it to wherever we need to fill the buckets without wasting water or ruining the area by getting too wet. This has happened several times already, and not only was it a pain to clean up, but it also emptied our well so we had to go down and manually restarted everything by filling the system with water. In short, it is a failsafe system to guard against our own forgetfulness with a great deal of flexibility

  Interesting stuff. I have similar valves and thermostats to control them. It's an older floor heating system where the thermostats are starting to fail. I've been thinking of doing something similar since the thermostats, even ugly ones with just a dial and no lcd cost $50 a piece or something. It really starts to add up after a couple of floors.

  @kunall the best recommendation against openhab for me was ugly interface and problems with running it (java). I was using domoticz since early version with own interface on arduino,now I've switched everything for MySensors. It still lacks some functions but Inwait for further development as even programmers of domoticz start to use MyS hardware

  I agree, take a look at a better router/firewall. I use pfsense, which can handle any number of WAN connections and run them however you want, failover or load balanced etc. I'd then run a VPN service to allow reconnect. You could use dynamic DNS to allow you to connect to the dynamic one from the Mobile network.

  @Tibus I gave you the footprints, for SMD it is equivalent of the wattage) actually only R4 & R5 a sensitive to the footprints. An even more sensitive to a maximum rating voltage than to the wattage. I'm using two 1206 in series to be sure that they will hold up to 400V. I made a check of different brands, usually the maximum rated voltage for 1206 is not bellow 200-300V, that means that in series of equal resistors the maximum rated voltage will be 400-600V all other resistors are under low voltage and very low power dissipation but if you need wattage just for learning curve, usually 0601 is 0.1W, 1206 is 0.25W

  @Heinz No need to write the code for me, I've done most of the work already but the only problems I have now is that with the sketch from this thread I can't control the 3 switches I have and the two temperature sensors are not detected by the Vera interface (I guess they aren't initialized correctly ?). I would appreciate if you could take a look at it.

  Hello @BulldogLowell I am brand new to this site but have built a few of my own project that monitored batteries and controlled the charging rate as well as the voltage all through a web page but I am Interested in this project, Have you a complete project details with BOM and full working code, as of yet? I am looking to control the fill of a 275 gallon water tank by sonic means. I wish to have the Ultra-Sonic device measure the water level and when certain depth conditions are met the unit will open a valve and allow water in , then when the proper level is met it will close the valve and transmit all this info back to my Vera and or a web page.   Thanks for the reply. I am not looking to use an LCD, although that may be the best solution. For now, I plan on creating a simple set of LEDs and buttons. I have looked over the code, and was wondering which part of the code is retrieving the status of a sensor? What if I have multiple motion sensors, how would I retrieve each unique value?

  @samppa yes, but you saw the little point functions your arduino is very capable of, yes? if you post your attempt at a sketch to control your fan (or even pseudo code) we can certainly help you code it up for Vera.

  Thanks hek, Did it a bit different, but probably with the result i wanted. In the repeaternode sketch I used the following line: gw.begin(NULL,4,true); This created a repeater node with node-id 4 (just an arbitrary number) In the Dallastemperature example I used: gw.begin(NULL,5,false,4) This created the sensor node with id=5, talking via repeaternode 4 to the serial gateway. This works. See the info from the temperature sensor being relayed to the serial-gateway. I haven't tried the method you suggested yet, but this sounds interesting of course. Wiil do that after Christmas I think. Boozz

  No, youre right, that wouldnt work for battery powered. I chop the ends off old cell phone chargers and try to keep a room's sensors down to a single box. The only one I've considered being battery powered is the "Mailbox opened" one but thats another project. The polling is really just to allow getting realtime data when you want it. If I think about it more, Ill probably leave it out. I was just thinking out loud near the end.

  Well I changed the connection type for the sensors due to the above issue. Tested and again after 2.5 days, it locked out on a sensor com error. So after some thought, I realized, (not sure why I didn't before) the system is not going to be 100% bullet proof, so instead of moving to a hard fault, I recoded the error handling section of the sketch to attempt to handle the occasional hiccups in reading the sensors. Pushed new sketch to Github and am testing now. It will interesting to see just how many times the readings fail. I shall see.....

  I have only used that radio for one node so far - one of the LCD clocks. Its only about 30ft from the controller but it does go though a couple of walls. Communication is pretty much 100% at that range. I used the larger antenna radios for the longer distances - e.g. the garage which is 50ft or so and about 4 walls but its very consistent. Rich

  @epierre had a quick look at the data sheet. The sensor has a 64 bit shift register which uses a clock signal and serial input. You need to clock in the 64 bits one by one and generate a clock pulse for each bit. Then read out each bit as an analog value on AO, and continue with the next bit. This thing is not i2c, spi nor i2s (audio only), but defines its own protocol. Connect your logic analyzer to clk and si if you like, but you also need an oscilloscope or so if you want to see the analog output values.

  Update: Wind up having to buy a oscilloscope to try and diagnose a problem I was having and wound up reworking the transformer board a little. I installed 5 caps in an attempt to clean up the output. 4.7uF/400V Cap between pins 22 and 26 on transformer. electrolytic 470uF/50v Between 5vd Output (electrolytic) 47uF/50v Between 5vd Output (electrolytic) 10uF/50v Between 5vd Output (electrolytic) .1uF/ (ceramic) Installed at the screw connector on the main board (for best results)

  @thumper I am not sure about LiPo and Solar or battery power in general. I had to use two separate 5v power supplies, one for the Arduino and one for the servo. Otherwise the pro mini would reset once the servo kicked in to open/close the blinds. My sketch never sleeps it always listens for commands sent from the Vera, either manually or PLEG commands at dawn and dusk.   Im a happy camper A beer later and a yield call in wrong place. Some more delays added on the Due side when sending data over I2C to the Nano, which is acting as a node for these 19 sensors, and all works fine. Without delays on the Due for the wire code I was always missing some values. No delays in the mysensors code needed for handling 19 sensors on a single radio.

  I plan to use also a CR123 for my board. I bought some CR123a rechargeable on ebay but the battery give me 4V when it's charged... is it a problem to give 4V to a 3.3V step up converter? is the "a" after CR123 say that's a 3.7V instead of a 3V or is it just because of the rechargable function? is your CR123 give also 4V when it's charged?   Hi again I think so to, here is the new code. Scene_Controller_6_buttons_and_5_Relays.ino I reduced the relays to 3, and all the devices is in vera, but the relay status update is stile slow / not happing The scene controller has now child id = 0 and the relays 1-3.

  @BulldogLowell that's a rational possibility. I have the sensors on the secondary Vera. Both Vera (what's the plural of Vera ) show the same illogical numbers however. This morning I've managed to get then all reporting different numbers now. I reset the three operating nodes at the same time (they are all battery operated so I brought then all to one place) and at the same time reloaded the secondary Vera. When I moved the nodes back where they belong on the next reporting cycle everything appears to make sense ... I'm not getting the same numbers any longer. It looks like "things got wound up around the axle" somehow and a little electroshock therapy was in order.
