@NeverDie Thx for appreciating the work done. There will also be an open source part in the future. When and how extensive the open source part will be, remains to be seen. The release of certain information (block diagram, ..., in this post) is related to those open source parts. There are some OBD solutions, however most of them (in my experience) give back low frequency data put by the car manufacturer on the OBD-bus (CAN, ...). Therefore transients evolving directly from the battery could only be recorded if the manufacturer sends those data accordingly on the bus. Due to the small bandwidth(also because of other car data that have to be sent, ...), such battery data are sent more often once per second or less. Fast battery events (i.e. cranking events, ...) are therefore imperceptible. Unless the manufacturer processes the fast events and then sends them (once per second or less), which is very unlikely if the manufacturer does not market this feature itself. Third parties devices for high frequency sensing costs several hundreds dollars. In my experience, important battery states (especially the fast ones) are recorded by measuring and processing corresponding data directly on the battery. I agree with you about the limits related to the communication over Bluetooth. But i think Bluetooth 5.0 will improve a lot. However, WiFi will always remain an important option due to the high data throughput. The combination of both (BLE & WiFi), especially with regard to energy consumption, will gain in importance.

"The counts of the indictment are luxury, bad manners, contempt for authority, disrespect to elders, and a love for chatter in place of exercise. … Children began to be the tyrants, not the slaves, of their households. They no longer rose from their seats when an elder entered the room; they contradicted their parents, chattered before company, gobbled up the dainties at table, and committed various offences against Hellenic tastes, such as crossing their legs. They tyrannised over the paidagogoi and schoolmasters.”

Hey! This looks like a great project! I'm considering building one for my hives. I notice that the legs need to be welded. That will be a chore for people that want to make this build themselves. Is this version designed to be built by anyone? Did you consider using open source or standardized hardware? Think of 2020 alu profiles or something, to allow reasonable buildability for users other than beep-base-shop. Also let me know if I misjudged, and that all components could be simply bought online. Stay awesome! ~ Bart

The final version of the boards contains few notable improvements Removed the PCB under the ESP8266 antenna. The previous design had PCB + Ground Plane, which resulted in VERY low reception. It worked just few meters away from the router. Removed the Temperature Probe - On the one hand - it does not really measure real temperature, on the other hand it populates the Single Analog port, and makes it unavailable for other usages Added place for an optional LDR (in case the Analog port is not used - one could add an LDR for added value) The connection between GPIO 16 and RST (Deep Sleep) is not bridged via a 0603 0ohm resistor (jumper). Depending on application it may be enabled or not Added a Power 5V line. That is - controlled via a SOT232 mosfet and one GPIO. This way you can connect power hungry modules and then turn them on or off. There are small mosfets rated ~ 2-3 amps for couple of cents. The big 12mhz crystal for the CH340G was replaced by a small patch ceramic oscillator to save space Added an additional mounting hole Added additional test pads for the unused GPIOs Added one Diode in series with the power to the WS2812B LED. It turned out, when powered directly via a USB Battery bank, the voltage can be 5.30-5.40v. And apparently WS2812B, does not light if VIN is > 5.15V. So putting a generic small Diode would drop 0.3-0.4V Here is how the latest design looks like

Really interesting, maybe I could build something cool around the Arduino HeatpumpIR (https://github.com/ToniA/arduino-heatpumpir) library I've been building. Right now I'm integrating it with Domoticz (http://www.domoticz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=7179#p69647). I'm an ex-Microsoft employee from Finland (resigned about a month ago).
