  @badisensors I have this same issue and am struggling to find a consice answer to the question. Have you figured it out? I would love to see a bit more detail about the important naming and numbering protocals for Gateways, Nodes, Sensors, and their output values within the MySensors architecture. So far, I am not finding much and progress is slow when I simply need to try different iterations and make conclusions/adjustments.

  Hi, Thank for your reply. Yes, i run since many years with a serial Gateway connected with my PI. I thought it was possible to use the same machine to remove this extra element. If you had a stability issue, I would just stick with my current formula and not change everything for now. Regards,

  Figured it out. I had to send HVAC_FLOW_STATE to HA, in order for it to figure out that it was a "thermostat". Only problem is that it shows up with states "Auto" "Cool" "Heat" and "Off" in the dashboard, even though I only have the possibility to heat, or turn it off.

This is aggravated by HA wanting the devices to be on line before you delete them. You may have to delete the MySensors data in the HA config directory. You may even have to uninstall MySensors from HA. Then shutdown HA. Next, turn off your gateway. Are you using MQTT for messaging? You'll have delete the MySensors data from there, too. (MQTT Explorer is good for doing this) Then start HA. Did your MySensors devices come back as zombies? That's the problem. Try deleting them again. Are they data still in MQTT? OK, now start again. I had documented how to do all this deleting in HA Forum, HA/Discord and here, but I can't find that documentation now. grrrr OSD

  Hey @OldSurferDude I think we have a missunderstanding here. I have my gateways running on ESP32. When I add the integration I can enter the IP in this dialog: If you want to change the IP number of the gateway (or the MQTT topic or the serial port), there is no way to do this:

  What I did not try but might work: copy your persistence file, delete the old GW and create a new one with the persistence file you copied. Maybe the devices are preserved like this. Maybe you should create a full backup before... <edit: typo>

  Same issue here. HA receives data from Ethernet Gateway for only a few minutes and then: DEBUG (MainThread) [mysensors.gateway_tcp] Connection lost with <_SelectorSocketTransport closing fd=42 read=idle write=<idle, bufsize=0>> I also have MYSController connected to the GW and it remains connected. There is an open issue as others are also having the same problem. Am wondering if anyone here is having success with Ethernet Gateway connected to HA.

  Thanks for the response. Can you be more specific about how to request the status from the node? My understanding is the request format is: request (Child_ID, VariableType); But if the Home Assistant entity that I want to request the status of is not a MySensors entity it will not have a Child_ID. So how do I format the request statement?

  Please read carefully documentation for HA. https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/mysensors/ You need to send initial state of your sensors. There is example code for doing it. Basically you check in loop if the node just started and send some values to HA. After that your sensor will appear in HA.

  Hi, friend! He also became interested in the Home Assistant system, but was upset by the lack of support OTA. I use a system Majordomo for MySensors devices and my Ethernet-RS485 gateways are based on ENC28J60. And I found such an idea for myself - to implement a proxy for the TCP protocol in order to implement a parallel connection to the gateway of two systems at the same time. I tested this solution and it turned out to work - I was able to flash via OTA , while simultaneously receiving data in Home Assistant. Perhaps this idea will be of interest to you.

  Hello, finally, ... I had time to test the "Option 2". Because the stock of all shops are empty, I used my old RPI 3 B+. But after all, the CPU runs at 50%. Even the 1 GB ram is half free. The way wasn't as easy as I thought. But now the setup runs pretty good. This steps I had to make: A fresh install of Raspian Lite (I used 64-Bit, if this is needed? I dont know) Installed "Home Assistant Supervised", which runs in a docker. (I found a tutorial based on this informations: https://github.com/home-assistant/supervised-installer) Installed the MySensors Gateway with some changes! (https://www.mysensors.org/build/raspberry) 3b. The manual works fine for 32 Bit raspbian. For 64 Bit you have to edit two files bevor the compile starts. (https://forum.mysensors.org/topic/11456/is-mysensors-rpi-gw-32bit-only/8) In my case i have to change the section for the BCM2837 (= RPI3) as described in the post. Now, I have a clean setup for my smarthome with MySensors Nodes and Zigbee Nodes. The RFM69 ist directly connected to the GPIO of the PI. The power consumption is araound 2 W. Somewhat lower when idle.

  The only think I'm able to do is to enable everything to mode "DEBUG" I'm not able to SET specific LEVEL to DEBUG mode for MQTT, MYSENSOR, SERVICE.

  Thank. This is what I do for the receive : So, I'm now able to SET a VALUE from HA. And after a pulse it is updated My question is most about how to use HA to do it more easily as possible. Do you think possible to use an TEXT object which can be sent to node through the MQTT ? Second question : how do you send value to the node (MQTT or other ?)

  @OldSurferDude The complete wipe seems to have worked. I also changed the version on HA's integration to 2.3 to match the MySensors library I use on the sketches. Thanks for the workaround.

  yes HA or (Hassio ) and not very friendly with MySensors. the "Persistence" function of the sensors and the rewriting of the sketches ( for the validation of the messages) and a constraint. Persistance No MyS is not dead, we are La! and for "Do I have to rewrite all my scripts, automations, models, etc..." ... it is perhaps the safest, cleanest... give us the result! Ask on the HA/Hassio forum for a solution? you are in mode #define MY_NODE_ID "static" for the nodes??

  You can't do what you want using that sensor - The sensor is just a simple on/off type sensor that tells you if the sensor plate is wet or not, it does not measure how much rain is falling. Even if you timed how long it was activated how would you know between heavy rain and a light shower? You need a 'tipping bucket' type sensor to give you an estimate of how much rain there has been, but even then you need to do some work with experimentation to get reasonable accuracy.

  Thanks for all the answers! Finally i managed to get it work. The reason for this issue was that a wrong serial port was entered in the input field of the MySensors Serial gateway setup window in Home Assistant. By default it was /dev/ttyACM0 however it turned out that it was already used by some other dongle.

  Ok, I've made some digging on Home Assistant GH and found out it's not a bug but a feature, but they just haven't put any info about the change to their documentation: https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/62703 Long story short, to use the notation “[Sketch name] [Node id] [Child id]”, there should be no sensor description in presentation(). This is supposed to work with “[Child description]” notation: present(NOTIFY_SENSOR_ID, S_INFO, "Child description"); And this with “[Sketch name] [Node id] [Child id]” notation: present(NOTIFY_SENSOR_ID, S_INFO);

  During a multiple value assignment, the ValueError: not enough values to unpack occurs when either you have fewer objects to assign than variables, or you have more variables than objects. This error caused by the mismatch between the number of values returned and the number of variables in the assignment statement. This error happened mostly in the case of using python split function. Verify the assignment variables. If the number of assignment variables is greater than the total number of variables, delete the excess variable from the assignment operator. The number of objects returned, as well as the number of variables available are the same. To see what line is causing the issue, you could add some debug statements like this: if len(line.split()) != "xx": print line This will resolve the value error.

  I have no idea, sorry... Personally I use node red for automations, from there you can just address the node and child directly even when it isn't presented or not supported by home assistant.

  @toddles I don't think you can trigger an event directly. HA mysensors integration changes the state of entities only. Your node sends button state on one single sensor id, value dependent on key pressed? And you only send on depressed event not on release? If so, why not send also a release event, or count the times one button is pressed before sending?

  @pw44 The HA integrations page has useful information of how it al works together, check the presentation paragraph as it is important in HA. The node sketch shall make use of these defs for HA. Is it right? So, on a node sensor, i can have from 0 to 255 child_id's, each with it's name. But how to give a name for each child, if more than one sensor is connected to the node? The name can me customized in the presentation function in the description field: https://www.mysensors.org/apidocs/group__MySensorsCoregrp.html#gaef20c35998db495bd4c85bac42a7ad49 bool present ( const uint8_t sensorId, const mysensors_sensor_t sensorType, const char * description = "", const bool requestEcho = false ) Is this all right? if not, please educate me in the right way. And i'm also getting the following: This entity does not have a unique ID, therefore its settings cannot be managed from the UI. Any hint?   You don't have to configure the gateway, just tell Home assistant the gateway is there. Did you follow the instructions in the link @BearWithBeard mentioned? Please note the nodes you use have to follow the presentation guide lines, else HA won't detect them automatically. https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/mysensors/#presentation

I was experiencing problems when starting the HA "server" (AKA Old laptop) and GW, or while the WIFI was temporary off for any cause. We had some rough weeks with our electricity company. The GW would disconnect from HA and I had to restart the GW or sometimes even HA to get it working again. It was a mayor headache while I was out of the house, the MQTT GW is way more reliable for me.

  Hi electrik, Yes, my nodes send the sketch name within the presentation function. As for the gateway, I have not set up a sketch name, the example I found did not implement this, so I didn't think it was necessary? I manually named the gateway node in the configuration.yaml file, and the "missing sketch name" message no longer appears in the log. I guess, I'll add an entry for node 0 (controller) as well . I'm still getting the "USB0 not ready after 15.0 secs" at startup, but all seems to work regardless. I connected the gateway to my pc using mycontroller, it all works fine. Logs look normal.   I understand that I am just trying to find out why my new sensors are not getting an auto assigned node id when all I have done is move from a ethernet gateway to a serial gateway. We have had a few version updates in HA and I am not sure what is the cause.

  Thank you so much @BearWithBeard for this, it's really helpful. I decided to try using a serial gateway and have had more success. The sensor is connecting and getting an ID from the controller. Although the gateway drops out when i reboot my Pi and I have to unplug, reconnect and restart HA! Not the end of the world, and certainly better than no connection, but a bit annoying. I'd like to use an Ethernet gateway if I can so I'll try your suggestion of static ID's and see what happens. I like the idea of organising things as you suggest, so may well end up doing that anyway. I'll try the static route to the gateway too if still no luck - very useful info. I'm using Uno's at the minute while I test/set it up and am powering them via USB from a laptop (sensor) and an NUC (Gateway). Although my serial gateway is connected via USB to the Pi running HA. No capacitors at this point either. They are within a few metres of each other so don't think range is the problem. Will amend my HA Config as you suggest, again useful info. Only other thing I didn't mention is I'm using a 5100 shield breakout board on the gateway rather than the board in the tutorial, not sure if this affects power or is relevant! Again, thank you, really appreciate your advice! I was completely stuck so really nice to have options now.

  OK I found the reason. I had to disable MY_RADIO_RF24 and MY_RF24_PA_LEVEL so I commented out line 44 and 51 and it worked.   Did you solve your problem? I had a similar problem, but using an Ethernet gateway, until I discovered that my sketch was not using the 2.x API, contrary to the gateway. This is also the case for the BinarySwitchSleepSensor you mention. You might want to try with a sketch based on the last one on this page (using the 'initialValueSent' variable): https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/sensor.mysensors/#mysensors-2x-example-sketch After updating to the 2.x API, my sensor showed up in the entities list of Home Asisstant (v0.106.6, HassOS 3.12, on Raspberry Pi 3) and I could create a UI card for it. (For some reason the entity is read-only in Hass.)

  I have added a sollution to V_VAR problem in both my rain and power pulse meter (check these threads). As said above, Homeassistant will not give an answer to these requests if there are no value in the mysensors json file. Either add this in the hardware code or as I did, request a couple of times to make sure you get the value if there is one. Count these requests and set a upper limit, like five or ten reuqest. Once your each this limit, send the value 0 to HA and this will be updated in the json file and start from there.

  @skywatch it's not me trying to compare, it happens in the mysensors library when receiving messages. It seems that mysensors is badly implemented in the home assistant, in domoticz it works very well

  @Michał-Szura I had problems with relay and HA too. The best solution was to save the state of the relay in the EEPROM and to recall the value after a defined amount of time and send it to HA in loop(). This way you do not have to restart the relay node everytime you restart HA.

  @jan-kocon I actually submitted a fix for the echo/ack that is now in the most recent version of Home Assistant. So, as long as you are on the most current version the default sketches should work now.

  V_VARx not working because HA saves states/data from mysensors to file. When you update sensor data from HA that file doesn't change. I can send data to node by V_TEXT messages using notify service. It works

  @adamant yes that's correct. The (other) difference is that the stock arduino version writes 0x00 to each location, while the MySensors version writes 0xFF. 0xFF is the value the eeprom has before it is written to the first time when it comes out of the factory.

  I was so occupied checking everything related to MySensors that I completely forgot to check the home-assistant part. I didn't specify the MySensors version in configuration.yaml, which defaults to 1.4 which doesn't support V_LEVEL... Oh well, problem solved ^^

  I think it's a good idea. My todo list for mysensors is already very long and I have limited time, though, so I don't think I will code this up soon. It shouldn't be very difficult though, so anyone is welcome to have a go and make a pull request. I'll happily review.

  Ok a bit of an update. I removed my "version" part from config...yaml. I then removed the mysensors.pickle file, restarted HA and then restarted my nodes. And voila, the started showing up. So either there was something wrong with the pickle-file or the version data didn't work. But I can see now that the gw sends it's version to HA all the time, like a heartbeat. I'm not sure if this is correct or not. Now I just need to figure out how to change the names of the sensors in HA to get them more like all my other devices.

  @tdecurtins https://www.home-assistant.io/components/mysensors/#presentation Home assistant only supports ethernet gateways that act as servers. So home assistant will connect as the client, ie we only configure the gateway address in home assistant, not the other way around.

  @soloam If you changed the optimistic setting, actuators will have assumed state and this will show in the ui as two different buttons for on and off. I recommend to not use optimistic setting, but instead feedback the new state to home assistant.

  I am having the exact same issue as kobipes. I am also on hass.io and I have not been able to resolve it. I am using an Arduino Nano with the RF24l01 connected to a Pi using USB (ttyUSB0). No go, configuration errors as stated from your post. However when I use an Arduino Uno on ttyACM i managed to get it working as long as you cold boot the Pi during config changes. Any help will be really appreciated!

  HASSIO 0.70 on RPi with serial gateway attached still having configuration check problem with mysensors when executing hassio ha check This is what I did to try to solve: Deleted the configuration.yaml and the mysensors.json Restarted the RPi and hassio installed the default configuration.yaml Added the following mysensors configuration to the default configuration.yaml mysensors: gateways: - device: '/dev/ttyUSB0' persistence_file: 'mysensors.json' persistence: true retain: true version: '2.2' Restarted the Rpi and checked that hassio had installed the mysensors.json in the /config directory All my sensors were added to the mysensors.json The whole system seems to work OK!   I bought them on aliexpress from the cdebyte shop. There are a few open topics about real and fake nrf24 if you want to read some more. As a general rule of thumb consider that the genuine nrf24 chip is normally sold around 1.2$ so you can't buy a fully assembled genuine module for less than a dollar.

  @antonholmstedt If a node is unknown it means that it hasn't sent proper presentation messages. A debug log from home assistant and a serial log from the node in question might shed some light. Usually this problem comes from messages not reaching the gateway.

  Thanks for the pointer obvious in hindsight!! So problem fixed after looking at the issue log on github here. Seems that this is a known feature/ problem of the library/ nrf24. Basically if your trying to send messages via the radio one after the other you need to wait for gateway to respond/ process before sending the next message. If you don't you will get intermittent results which mirrors my problems with presentation, messages and battery. There are some good conversation on how this might be fixed under version 2.2 or not but for the simple solution has been to implement the solution proposed by user trlafleur - its simple, works and I don't have to start messing with dev libraries (which I dont have a clue on)

  You likely need to load the "ClearEepromConfig" sketch to the arduino to clear all of the data from the arduino.

  No mysensors devices will be visible in home assistant until they are presented and send their first values to home assistant. So only having a gateway without sensors will not generate any mysensors entities in home assistant.   You can't do it on an arduino. Since you are going to run a controller it could make sense having a raspberry. Running 2 separare instances it would not be a problem for HA as you would have to add the 2 gateways anyway like if they were on separate hw

  It's normal. Home assistant requests the gateway version every 10 seconds as a test that the connection to the gateway is still OK.

  @adamp237 It sounds as you currently only have one arduino that acts both as a gateway and motion sensor and you don't have any other devices talking to the gateway via nrf radio. If so it's OK to have the gateway sleeping as long as you don't plan to send messages to it.   @mardah Hi! Home assistant sends a request for gateway version every 10 seconds and if the gateway doesn't respond with version within another 10 seconds, home assistant disconnects from the gateway and tries to reconnect. Have you monitored your gateway serial port during these tests? Seeing that side of the conversation would be interesting. The gateway not responding to the version request is a sign that something is not working properly with the gateway, or that it is unstable. Once I had this issue when I had built the gateway sketch with an avr version that had a bug, and caused the gateway to reboot when starting the communication.   @martinhjelmare OK, It was not an update, since when booting the gateway device from my backup drive I have the same radio problem. So I'll have a look onto that. The gateway is installed on a Raspberry Pi 3, powered by the 'normal' micro USB adapter. I could exchange the capacitor on the radio there as a start. [EDIT] Solved, just 'touched' the capacitor and wobbled around on the gateways radio, and radio communication works again. Sorry for the confusion...

  Hi, well issue resolved and unsurprisingly it was me So the first I got home and took a look at logs again and saw that node two has rejected connection and indeed, it not responded from any UI and even from the light switch, restart fixed it, but now I wonder if it will happen again. After that, I used light switches on the third node manualy and they imidietly appeared in HA, but still nothing from DHT sensor. So I took a look at my code and found my error I got mixed some things around.   I guess this thread should be in the hardware forum. But if someone find this thread i can share some pictures and the idea with this node. I built it as a USB-stick with a USB-connector on a prototype PCB. Not good looking but when i get my TV up on the wall you can't see it. I use it to turn on light in the bathroom at night if my kids visit the toilet.

  @kincaidj001 Home assistant supports serial, ethernet and mqtt gateways. You can have multiple gateways connected to home assistant at the same time. The gateway connection type decides how the controller should communicate with the gateway, but it doesn't change the mysensors serial API. Messages between gateway and controller will still have the same structure. They will just be sent over different transport protocols. The controller doesn't care about what type of device is on the other end, it only cares about the transport protocol and the serial API to use for messages. Regarding choosing gateway type, I suggest you try something and see how it works for you. Since you already have mqtt set up you could start with the ESP and try connecting it via Wifi+mqtt. A serial gateway is probably the easiest to set up. Just take care to match baud rate settings on device with controller, depending on what device you chose as gateway.   I knew that they are marked. But I didn't know the polarity. It could have been possible that Cap- goes to VCC on the radio, since in a full capacitor, there is a lack of electrons on Cap+, and very much electrons on Cap-, and also a lack of electrons on VCC, and very much electrons on GND, and the many electrons on the negative side should match the lack of electrons on the matching side of the other device - you see my point? So I was unsure. But Cap- to GND is clear and explicit, yeah.

  No problem, glad to hear about user stories. Can you explain a bit more, what you mean with IR receive via dev panel? IR receive is a sensor type, right? It should be possible already to update any states in the states dev panel. Maybe I'm not following completely? Contributing in the form of feedback on what works and don't work is very appreciated.   The AttributeError: V_TEXT error is solved in HA version 0.38.3: https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant/pull/5942 The other error seem to be from a hue device and this issue has a similar stack trace: https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant/issues/4994 Cleaning the hue bridge seems to be the solution. Regarding HA stopping to update mysensors after a restart of the ethernet gateway, this should be the same as this issue: https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant/issues/4891 We now have a fix for this in pymysensors: https://github.com/theolind/pymysensors/pull/67 HA is not updated to use this fix yet, but I'll try to do that asap. I'll update the issue and this thread when that is done. Regarding your gateway restarting when you restart a node or repeater, that sounds weird and not good. Could be a power issue at the gateway?

  @martinhjelmare It works now! I think it is a hardware issue I have here, since I just put the decoupling capacitor in between the radio and the pin header socket. Checking that connection helped (pushing again in), and the presentation was correct now - including the sketch name.

  @Efflon It can't be done during presentation cause the node isn't registered yet at the gateway at that time. Default settings in mysensors requires nodes to be registered before the gateway allows them to send in values. In mysensors 2.1.x setup is called after registration, so it is possible to use that for sending values, but I would still recommend to do it in the loop. Reason is, in some cases you want to resend the initial values, and then setup is not suitable as it's only called once. Eg if your're using the ethernet gateway and have local sensors on the gateway, when home assistant connects to the gateway, the gateway will re-run presentation and continue with the loop. But setup will not be called again, as it already has been called when the gateway was first started. So if you would send initial values of sensors in setup on a gateway, the sensors wouldn't show in home assistant, cause the initial values would already be sent by the time home assistant connects to the gateway. Best way, I think, is to use an if block in the loop where you send the values and then request them from home assistant. You use a boolean variable, that you can turn on/off, that decides if the if block should be entered. You have the boolean True by default, and then set it to False when you have received the initial values back from home assistant in receive.   When you invert the defines for relay, you are not only inverting how the relay will react on digitalWrite, you are also inverting how the state of the relay is reported back to home assistant. This is where the problem gets introduced. As home assistant on turn on action always sends a 1 as payload to the device, the device will now send a 0 back as state feedback. This will tell home assistant that the state should be off, instead of on. So it will be impossible to turn the relay on from home assistant. If you do want to invert the high/low behavior of the relay, you need to decouple the high/low defines from the state reporting 1/0, ie use different defines. If you want the device to be shown as a light in home assistant you need to present the device as S_DIMMER and send both V_PERCENTAGE and V_STATUS, in mysensors version 2.*. S_BINARY and S_LIGHT will be shown as a switch.

  Well, the sun shines on a dogs arse some days. We've only gone and done it, HA dash with relay sw. can controll led from dash. I honestly have sticky stuff running down my leg. You have no idea how happy I am. For future reference. I was flicking the power to reset pi in between config changes. My mosquitto was not starting from boot, so nothing to connect to, hence the errors when the code was right. Also reset your nodes after a change. This my yaml for the following setup nodes are arduino nanos with nrf2401+ radio. (mysensors 2.0) gateway is esp8266 NodeMCU 1.09. Wifi with NRF2401+ Pi 3 hosts Home Assistant and Mosquitto broker.   @MaKin Hi! What arduino are you using as gateway? How have you configured the mysensors component in home assistant? So at home a similar setup is working together with home assistant, but at school it doesn't? What's the difference between the two environments, hardware and software -wise?

  @abmantis I didn't make the initial mysensors implementation in home assistant that only supported sensors, but I made the refactor that laid the groundwork for multiple mysensors platforms in home assistant. About 5-10 people has been contributing to the mysensors component in home assistant over time. There's also the pymysensors package (not my creation either) that interfaces mysensors and home assistant. It's actually this package that holds most of the mysensors specific logic, like smartSleep. Here there's also about 5-10 people that has contributed. All help and feedback is welcome!
