Forum Banner on Screen
-
Does or have other users seen this before or am I just thick again.
On the Forum pages a banner has appeared just above the thread areas.
It is orange/brownish and has the request to activate desktop notifications. In my case the request has come from node BB.
I do not have a node BB.I do have Ethernet g/w
ide 1.6.5
win 8.1
lib 1.4.1
ver 1.4
veralite ui5All seems to be running ok and I can delete the banner using the x on the right of banner but it does reinstall again upon returning to the forum
-
i think that's the forum software.. not anything to do with your "mysensors" physical nodes.
i do get that as well and would like it to go away
-
Strange. I don't get it in chrome. We're using the latest version of dektop-notifications-plugin.
You might wanna open an issue here describing your problems and/or environment.

I have the same "problem". Chrome once asked me for permissions for this side to display notifications (which I declined ). How I see this banner. You can simply close it by clicking on the x though.
-
You can accept the request from the banner. It's just a message from the forum requesting your permission to update the number of unread topics in your browser.
I have it when I open the MySensors forum in firefox,

No problems for me when I use chrome. If I use Microsoft Edge on my Surface Pro, Windows 10 then this keeps happening. Not bothered though.
-
I'm using the latest version of Chrome from a few different systems and always get the banner when first connecting to the forum. Very annoying. This has been happening since the latest forum updates.
Cheers

even if you click "click here to activate" it never goes away
-
Could someone take a screenshot and post it here.
I'm using latest chrome on mac. No sight of it here.
-
This is Firefox 41.0.1 on Windows 7, but I have the problem on Chrome on Windows 8.1 as well
-
The banner shows each time I open the forum. I have also noticed that size of window affects if its shown or not, smaller window does not show it for me.

yes what he shows is what i'm seeing.
happens every time, on every machine no matter if you click the x or click here to activate them. keeps coming back no matter what
-
The banner is shown on my ipad as well, but only in landscape mode (probably due to the browser width as suggested above)
-
Ok, linked this thread over at NodeBB:
https://community.nodebb.org/topic/6713/desktop-notifications-popup-problem
-
Looks similar to this issue from 1 year ago https://github.com/psychobunny/nodebb-plugin-desktop-notifications/issues/14
-
Yep saw it... looks like that they solved it once.. wonder why it would appear again.. What makes it even stranger is that only some people is experiencing it.
Corrected a couple of js errors I saw here on this install today. But I doubt that would change anything regarding this issue.

For a dirty quick fix you can add the following custom filter in your adblock preferences (works on µBlock)
forum.mysensors.org###header-menu > .visible-md-block.visible-lg-block.desktop-notification-permission
-
@emc2 thanks! that worked
-
No news so far?
-
Can't help more than referring to this (we're using the latest version of the plugin(0.2.2)):
https://github.com/psychobunny/nodebb-plugin-desktop-notifications/issues
If we'll get an update I'll install it here.

I'm so tired of clicking close tens of times per day so I figured out how to block this on a URL-based adblocker. (The uBlock suggestion is great, but only works on adblockers that can block using CSS.)
On Adblock Plus the following filter works:||forum.mysensors.org/templates/partials/nodebb-plugin-desktop-notifications/*
Will try to find a filter for iOS as well. The problem is even worse there because the banner hides several useful buttons ("WATCH" for example).

Thanks for the ABP filter, this banner bugging me for desktop notifications that I'll never enable was driving me absolutely nuts.
While using the filter works great, I would rather see the plugin go away as long as it ignores settings within Firefox to disable all desktop notification attempts. Only started seeing this about a month or so ago, very strange.

I am stuck with this in firefox.
Its a nuisance!!!!
-
Weird,
What is your setting here:
-
@hek
My settings as they have always been.
-
Ok, does it disappear if you choose "block" or "allow" for notifications?
-
@hek
Makes no difference if i use either of those settings?
-
Strange, I cannot reproduce in firefox here.
-
@hek
This is a clean install of firefox as of 2 days ago.
Had to rebuild my computer.
Maybe that has some bearing on the problem.
-
I am having a similar popup in chrome (windows). I can close the popup (in the bottom right corner) but the "x" is invisible and I get the same popup again every time I use the forum. I don't want any desktop notifications
-
Understand it might be annoying.. We run the latest version of the notif-plugin mentioned above (0.3.1). So it seems they still have some issues.
They had an issue (which is closed) that sound like the things you experience.I can't seem to find any related user setting in my account either.
