ESP8266 Gateway start without WiFi connection

Maybe this question was already asked, but I could not find it.

I currently have an ESP8266 MQTT Gateway running smoothly. My only concern is what will happen, when the WiFi and/or MQTT gets disconnected. I have yet to try what happens, when disconnected during operation. But when the Gateway is in startup it absolutely requires WiFi and MQTT to be up and running, otherwise it will just sit there and try to connect forever.

Is there any way I can tell the Gateway to not wait for a WiFi + MQTT connection, if the connection attempt failed too many times? So that the Gateway can do its job of routing control signals in the sensor network even without convenience connections.

If this functionality is not implemented right now, I would like to add it. If the connection breaks during operation or if no connection was present at startup, the library could test periodically, if the connection can be established. Just like it is handled when using MY_TRANSPORT_SANITY_CHECK right now. And still route packages from and to the nodes.

Thanks for all the info all But still have the problem with vera3 on ui7 Cribben, I follow the instructions on the my sensor vera plugin and it comes up with ver 1.3 and no lib # how did you get the new plugin to load Any help at all would be welcome as ui7 is not too smooth yet.

Sorry. Hek, I using this code. Vera3 find relay and it works, but also appears 3 door sensors instead of 3 temp sensors. I try to use the my arduino board only with sd18b20 sketch and it work's and show temperature. Cool project @bsmtdweller New thread or stay in this doesn't matter much, but for people searching the forum (or their favorite search engine) in the future, I think a new thread with a subject containing "incubator" will be more clear. I would build it with multiple nodes. Smaller chunks of code, easier wiring, easier to isolate individual parts which helps tremendously when troubleshooting, easer to reuse code for one node in case you (or someone else) want to expand the project later, easier to remove a part if you (or someone else) don't need it. The non-mysensors code is more important, so I would start with that, but make sure all parameters that you want to be able to change are stored in variables and not hardcoded. Then add the MySensors code to update the values of the variables. The autonomy will be hard. Normally I would prefer to have all logic in the controller, since a controller has much better ways to program and debug stuff. Not fun to write - and maintain - in C with very rudamentary debugging tools. But as you say, being reliant on having Domoticz working all the time might not be good. Having the system fail gracefully will be a challenge. A start could be to search the forum for MY_TRANSPORT_WAIT_READY_MS to see what others have done. And maybe - to make the system as reliable as possible - you should add everything to a single node instead of splitting it up into multiple nodes.

@tsunami My setup is max 50m radius and 433MHz standard power RFM69s so a small 1/4 wave whip works reliably even from a below ground pump chamber 10m away. Your 915MHz at 200m SHOULD work on 1/4 wave if obstacle free line of sight, but you could try a 2.4GHz Wifi router at one location and use a mobile at the other to test if you can see the router. I can see at least 3 neighbouring routers identified on my mobile from over 40m away through masonry, 10 on the laptop, so it's a simple enough test. If you can see the router on either, 915MHz should be rock solid with a simple whip and no need of directional antenna.
