I'm not familiar with the project that inspired this one, but you should pay attention to hot spots, heat should be equally spread across the whole plate. plus you should have good sensors and provide controllable configuration of heat points for soldering different components according to the manufacturer's datasheet.

@NeverDie Based on my simulation and testing it's not a problem, yet I can look at it and check it's transient response.

Well, I was able to artificially raise the CTS line, which is active low, and halt the transmissions, so I don't think the problem is with the UARTE on the nRF52x. Rather, I think the problem may be with how virtual com ports are handled on PC's, and maybe they aren't configured to properly use RTS and CTS for flow control. At any rate, I was able to crank the UARTE transmission speed all the way up to 941176 baud, and at that speed it takes only a very small artificial delay (around 300usec) after each transmitted string to avoid problems, so I'm just going to do that and move on rather than chase down how to get perfect RTS/CTS working on a PC's virtual com port. So, for that reason, this PCB project will still have value when its finished by keeping the "wiring" all within a single PCB rather than strewn about externally with a rat's nest of actual wires.

The short answer is no. Regular battery chargers are designed to deliver higher constant voltage to the battery charging it much faster, however the trickle chargers deliver a slow charge to your battery and are designed to be left on your battery for extended periods of time.

      NeverDie

@alphaHotel said in Version 3.0 atmega328p test platform: @NeverDie Awesome. thanks. I uploaded the files for version 3.0, including the KiCad 6.0 project archive as a .zip file contained within the .rar file. As it has already served its purpose for me, I didn't meddle with the spacing on the batteries, but I did go out of my way to avoid possible short-circuits between the battery holder and traces on the PCB. Enjoy!

I've been experimenting with PCB design the last few weeks. I'm currently using an Arduino Uno as my Gateway with everything mounted on a breadboard and dupont cables. As it doesn't have the waf factor I promised my better half to make a nice enclosure for it, but for that I had to create a shield. This one is for my NRF24L01+ network. My latest sensors all work on RFM96 with the MySensors Gateway. But as you can order it almost fully mounted I think it's a nice entrance level solution for those who want to start with MySensors without having all the problems I've seen on this forum. You simple mount the shield - maybe solder the radio - upload the code and you're got to go in 10 - 20 minutes.

@Ron said in Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor: @Puneit-Thukral Thanks. I am not quite sure, so correct me please if I am wrong, but I think I am already using the MiniCore bootloader with platformIO. Or do I need to configure to explicitly use the MiniCore bootloaders? Also I have set BOD to disabled as I read somewhere that no BOD can also save battery. hi I'm not sure, but I believe I'm already using the MiniCore bootloader with platformIO. Please tell me if I'm incorrect. Is it necessary to set the MiniCore bootloaders explicitly?

@openhardware-io Hi, the link you gave in your description isn't working: "One pack of Greenstar replacement rollers https://www.hagebau.de/p/renovo-ersatzwalzen-greenstar-6-cm-3-stueck-anHG_PROD_4046806013680/ Costs: 3,99 €" I did find the following, though the price is different from what you reported, and it looks different than what's in your photo: https://www.hagebau.de/p/renovo-farbwalze-greenstar-25-cm-12-mm-florhoehe-weiss-gruen-blau-anP7000129076/?searchType=devided&q=greenstar rollers&itemId=B1072454 Are you actually unwinding the nap of a paint roller and using it in your machine as a dust remover?

Ok, finally it's solved. I installed everything from scratch. Then installed your sandeep lib from your github. And finally added the LEDs and Buttons to the variants.h. That compiled successfully. And my problem was that the sensor is sleeping and I couldn'T get a heartbeat answered. So everything is clear and now testing...

Hi @chey, no, with the pro minis and MySensors lib I couldn't get less. Didn't measure with yet another multimeter though... My battery sensors are working now for about a year and the battery levels are between 65% and 70%. The sensor furthest from the gateway is at 65% and the 3 others at 70%. Not bad I think. https://forum.mysensors.org/topic/11499/checking-mechanical-locked-doors-by-a-battery-based-windows-door-sensor-node

@berkseo Yes, it's available here. The documentation is a little bit scarce I admit but if you understand Apache MyNewt and its build system it should be pretty straightforward theoretically. I will add more details when I have the time. The code was tested and it's in production. Works without a glitch so far.

      NeverDie

@NeverDie said in The Harvester: ultimate power supply for the Raybeacon DK: Edit: This guy found another couple of possibilities as to what the E50D chip might be: https://www.electroschematics.com/pfm-module-circuit-surgery/ I have the same board as this guy. I removed the LED and resistor because they are on the input side, so they are almost useless anyway. For a board such as this, with a promised 0.9v startup voltage on the input side and a promised 5v on the output side, they really should have been attached to the output, not the input, to show roughly when it is that the board is producing useable output. At a 20mv "keep alive" input voltage, the input measures 0.5ma using a uCurrent Gold. That means the keep alive energy is 10 microWatts. Offhand, for the application we've been discussing on this thread, I suspect that number is too high to be practically useful, because at only 20mv input we'd be collecting far less than 0.5ma current from a tiny panel. At least now we know.

Nice project manufacturers datasheets, RF appnotes etc all mention this, with results for different usecases (like gnd plane size etc). I mentioned it a few times on the forum: nothing under or near antenna (keep out zone) their matching circuit, and CE/FCC certif are based on their development boards+their antenna if external, often without enclosure. there are a very few pcb antennas which are resilient to untuning. ceramic or meandered pcb are usually more compact but less resilient (like when you approach your hand and device suddently has better or worst communication) once you change any of these parameters (board shape, gnd size, enclosure etc), it breaks FCC, and may need retuning, still you can get useable range. "ideally" tuning should be done once enclosed for example. manufacturers can't cover all cases. on my side, I try to follow these rules. and when interested in a design or a device, I check this. Mainly the routing+gnd, antenna choice, keepout zone, and orientation vs my usecase (long range needed or not for example)

@Mishka Very nice work indeed. One question though: I don't see an antenna of any kind built into the PCB. Maybe I'm just not seeing it, or is there none? I do see a connection for an off-board near field antenna, but off-hand I don't see where the antenna is for 2.4Ghz RF. Oh, I see it now. You're using a chip antenna. Got it. Well, now that you've been using it for a while, how is the Raybeacon working out for you?

Hey! This looks like a great project! I'm considering building one for my hives. I notice that the legs need to be welded. That will be a chore for people that want to make this build themselves. Is this version designed to be built by anyone? Did you consider using open source or standardized hardware? Think of 2020 alu profiles or something, to allow reasonable buildability for users other than beep-base-shop. Also let me know if I misjudged, and that all components could be simply bought online. Stay awesome! ~ Bart

Perhaps answering my own question, I ordered one of these (it was $84, including delivery, during Black Friday) in order to properly characterize ultra low power energy harvesting circuits: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33031557247.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.6f673c009dbs4n&mp=1 Ignoring its multimeter aspects, what remains is essentially a precision CV CC micropower supply intended for use as a calibrator. It has both microamp and microvolt output resolution, and the advertised accuracy (0.015% to 0.02%), if true, seems pretty good for the price. I should be able to calibrate a uCurrent Gold with it, for example. It may not arrive until much later in the month though. If anyone else wants to get one too, the normal price through this vendor is around $104, which to me still seems like a good price. I'm not sure why it's currently priced at $153, unless maybe it's in temporary short supply following the big Black Friday sale.

Sorry, one more mistake. On the board, the UART port connector rotates on 180 degrees. In this case, UART on the Orange PI Zero and UART on the board should be connected with wires.

@shajek Drivers for MS are on the Internet. There is a project in which the author finalized the library and launched MQTT for sim5320. Here is the link: https://www.instructables.com/id/Remote-Control-and-Photo-Surveillance-Over-MQTT/ . Only there Arduino M0 is used (for convenience of working with several interfaces of UART). And it even transfers the image from the camera through MQTT and 3G channel.

I am working on the analogous project. For several years I am using hw interface https://github.com/HynekBaran/OpenThermGWMini connecting the boiler and Arduino+NRF24L01 (which acts as a MySensors actuator). BUT: My boiler supports OpenTherm/Light (OT/-) protocol only. As far as I know, hw ("electric") specs of OT- are same as OT+ (2.0). So may be the simple OpenThermGWMini hw may be used, but there is missing MySensors sw part. See the original circuit diagram Maybe we may share?

Hello, i'm making some progress; received the components this week. Unfortunately it doesn't work... yet For now i have SanityCheck failure in to logs. I'm afraid my soldering of all these little components is not good. I tested with a multimeter the 4 pins and i have continuity on one of them but maybe not the others so i guess i will have to try remelting all these small regulators ???

@kimot I am not handling that situation. I'm taking for granted ssr will do his job. Maybe there's some ssr safety topic I'm unaware? Suggestions for a v3.0 are welcome. About the temperature measuring... I use two sensors. The one in the board protects electronics from temperatures beyond design (60°C). It's near the ssr because the ssr's derating curve is the most limiting condition. The control sensor is placed in the bottom of the heater. It connects to the board through a 3 pin header connector.

By the way, I'm currently using the RF Nano as a 'usb key gateway', or sorts. With the WebThings Gateway, a user just has to install the Candle manager add-on. Then they plug in the RF Nano and select that they want to upload gateway code from a menu. That's all they have to do.

The author has done some good work ensuring good design practices; trace separation, fuses, etc. but I don't see any extra I/O brought out on this particularl switch. You would have to carefully solder to the chip itself, and modify the code a bit. You could use magnetic switches. Put a magnet on the blinds and the switch in window sill. The author notes that this is not an Arduino, but uses the same chip that the Arduino uses. The author doesn't explain how the chip is programmed. This method could have been used. It may be just as easy to use an RF Nano with a little power supply. This suggestion is not nearly as robust as the author's. For example, these power supplies have gotten bad reviews mainly because the mains power traces are too close together. I justify using them because in all likelihood a failure will pop the power supply and probably the Nano, too, noting that these are cheaper than the fuses you would put in to protect them. I am fully aware of the risks involved in doing this, and you should be, too (eg. burning down your house). -OSD

Advantage of this sensor is fast and easy installing by the non qualified personal. The sensor is designed for large agriculture facility with many greenhouses where is needed to be controlled temperature and humidity, the atmospheric pressure is for control the motor of air inlet and outlet. With help of the sensor installed outside the greenhouse provide information about positive/negative pressure inside the greenhouse. Finlay the software read accurate temp/humid value of the Si7021, and only atmospheric pressure of BMP180, the temperature sensor inside the BMP180 is used only by the sensor itself to provide accurate atmospheric pressure measurements. The sensor can be used also for home automation, and drone applications where is needed correction of the UAV barometric sensor compared to the ground barometric sensor, also humidity measurement can help the pilot to calculate more accurate flying time.

Hello everyone, Had a moment to put in a post, to let you know I could answer questions. I'll probably put a few more designs up here if I get any interest. The Github for the design will always be the most recent, but I will release revisions here if/when they need to happen. This board came about because I had need of a fast sampling strain gauge load cell circuit for a project. I designed this to be a prototype board to work between different MCU boards and with varying load cells. This circuit has been tested using 3 different Arduino form factor boards, the Uno, the Sparkfun ATSAMD21G breakout, and the Adafruit Metro M4 Express. I don't have the regulator populated in the image, I was using a wire jumper until deciding on which board this particular one would permanently reside, the Sparkfun board, for example, require a 5V v-in, whereas the Adafruit and Arduino can handle 12V. The 2.54mm pitch terminal blocks are spaced back from the edge of the board in case a smaller board is desired (to match the Sparkfun or Coridium board profiles), and to allow the use of a 90 degree pin header instead of the screw terminals without going off the end of the board.

@berkseo I'm trying to reverse engineer the BOM of this board, but I am quite unsuccessful. Could you please upload a BOM with (R1 = xxx k) or something similar, or Upload high-res closeups of the board so one can read the resistor values? Capacitors are a little harder, maybe you could share those values? I have started on a BOM list, if you could help me fill it out, that would be much appreciated. I want to start soldering!! @openhardware-io Hi: (Please direct to Feanor-Anglin if possible) I previously ordered some 4RelayDIN PCBs off openhardware.io and got v1.6 PCBs but the info on the site I found is only for an earlier version of the PCB board. I am trying to build some of the boards but there are additional compomemts on the newer PCB board. The main one which looks to be a driver IC. Would you please share the updated information with me or perhaps update the openhardware.io site. Many thanks, Rod

@kimot in theory you might be right, but in practice... it just works. The propability of collisions is extremely low and this is, as far as I know, the only problem you can worry about. After all, it was not my idea to use MySensors with RS485: https://www.mysensors.org/build/rs485

Sorry, 1 more question. At what timeframe do you expect diy packages to be for sale? I have checked with steel manufactures before for other projects, but having a small batch of steel tubes means that they will be enormously expensive and the same goes for the PCB's. The milling I can do easily at a maker space (fablab013). I am planning on a rather long, 1 storey hive, so I plan to cut the metal tubes in half and mount an extension in between.

@berkseo I presume so, but so far I've only confirmed that it works. If running a wireless device, then to be ultra conservative, one would want to have it charge a capacitor, then turn it off before an rx or tx, and then turn it on again. That would be true for any boost converter. Unfortunately, this one doesn't have an enable pin, so you'd have to make your own switch for it in that case. I don't know that it would be needed, but that would be the abundance of caution approach. Either that or make a low pass filter for it if it has any remaining voltage ripple. I haven't measured for that, so I can't say. It may or may not be an issue. Without doing measurements, I couldn't say. Again, that would be true for any boost converter.

@Mishka Ah yes, that is true. In this case though I went out of my way to keep the PCB dimensions as small as possible so that someone could have it made at OSH-PARK for super cheap--just $0.30 per board. If I ever figure out how to post a complete set of KiCAD files, then I guess maybe then everyone can modify it to suit their circumstances. Until then, it will be hard to have one's cake and eat it too.

@nca78 I don't use ATAES132A. I put it in just in case I wanted to invest some more time using it. I now just use SimpleEncryption, it's secure enough for my purpose atm. (since the area I live in uses KAKU a lot, an insecure 433MHz lightswitch, I don't think anyone would be bothered to hack my temperature sensors. I found 163 433Mhz devices when I left domoticz logging for a couple of days.)

@rchamp I hope that very soon my SolidWorks will present very interesting enclosures for my devices :). Now this is the number one task. In fact, I stopped developing new PCBs. Now I spend all my free time developing enclosures for finished devices.

      NeverDie

@berkseo said in Touch switch with glass panel (two channels, battery): @neverdie said in Touch switch with glass panel (two channels, battery): you can add it externally after the fact ... It's not entirely clear, is it adding something to the circuit diagram (hardware)? Or is it a software solution, such as writing a value to a register? Well, it's been a while, so I' going from memory. There's definitely a hardware component for DC-DC that you can see in the datasheet. IIRC, there's also a software enable as well. Really, though, with these chips, the datasheet is your friend for answering most quesitons. There just isn't much other documentation to go by, aside from thread "nrf52 action!",

Version 4.2 was just published. The board now also contains breakout headers for I2C devices (temperature sensors such as Si7021, HTU21D, SHTT71 and BME280) and a headers for a RXB6 RF 433Mhz receiver. Not tested yet.
